LA MARQUE, Texas - A man blamed a low-flying pelican and a dropped cell phone for his veering his million-dollar sports car off a road and into a salt marsh near Galveston.

The accident happened about 3 p.m. Wednesday on the frontage road of Interstate 45 northbound in La Marque, about 35 miles southeast of Houston.

The Lufkin, Texas, man told of driving his luxury, French-built Bugatti Veyron when the bird distracted him, said La Marque police Lt. Greg Gilchrist.

The motorist dropped his cell phone, reached to pick it up and veered off the road and into the salt marsh. The car was half-submerged in the brine about 20 feet from the road when police arrived.

If he can afford one, he can afford getting a replacement.

I hope his insurance covers rogue pelicans. I know mine does not. I've checked.
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

Wow. Did they seriously just refer to that as a luxury car? Sure, it's very nicely appointed inside, but that is FAR from its market.

Another article I read said that the car ran for 15 minutes in the pond before shutting off. Dumbass didn't even turn the car off after it happened.

Oh, and the guy in the pic is the towtruck operator. There's a vid on youtube that shows them dragging it out, and onto the rollback, with the hooks through the wheels. No towhooks on the Veyron, it seems.
    Ludicrous gibs!

Doubtful, especially since Bugatti (VW) isn't making anymore Veyrons (they lost a significant amount of money on each one, despite the giant price tag; it was essentially an engineering challenge to see if it could be done), and there are only like 200 in the world.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

It IS a luxury car. Maybe not in the Mercedes "luxuriousness sense, but ownership of a Bugatti Veyron is definitely a luxury that few can afford. Thus...luxury car.;)

That's not true. They are still making them. 2009 and on so far has been the Gran Sport. It's a targa topped version and they started production earlier in the year. As far as I know, no official numbers have been released yet, production or sales wise. But they are building and selling them.

Theres been several others wrecked, unfortunately. I guess the good thing is that they're at least being driven and not parked in a garage all their lives.

Well that's an easy fix! Just hook up the tow line to the trailer hitch. :p

In my albeit limited experience. People that can afford that car... shouldn't be allowed to drive it.
