Muskies!!!

Sunday im goin Musky fishing on the St. Louis Bay and then my boat is gettin put up for the winter! Hopefully I will catch one last monster Musky for the summer season.

I did however have an interesting time fishing the illusive Musky this season, though. I snagged a beaver earlier this summer fishing with a top water lure, the damn beaver surfaced just as I was tugging my top water plug. Instantly he was hooked in the neck and it was game on lol. I fought him for about 5 minutes and couldnt even budge him, finally I set the drag tight and pulled until the hook bent straight and he was off(whew). Another incident I was using another top water bait, but this one was a big noise maker, with splashers. Well I couldnt believe it when a 7 pound Walleye attacked this monster bait(10 inches long) with absolute fury. Normally walleyes will not hit anything on top of the water, but this one was obviously mad! lol It was a big female so it went back in the river, to hopefully reproduce again.

Anyways im, well, sort of pumped, icefishing is right around the corner!!! Up here in northern Wisconsin we have had a very warm November(damn it!). But its starting to drop down in the 20's at night and thats a good sign. Within a month I will be sittin and standin on 2-3 inches of ice catching monster crappies and bluegills :D then in the end of december it will be walleyes.....mmmmmmm.....walleyes!
Most of them only hear how loud it sounds, and the rest of us hear everything else -

Hey Leroy, I also do alot of fishin in the hayward area(its only and hour drive for me). Mainly on the Namekagon River, I canoe it about 5-10 a year. It is a great time, very laid back trip with lots of good fishing holes to hit on the way. Nice big smallies, good eating size walleyes, and if you got patients you can find some monster muskies.

You should let me know when you will be there next year, I will guide you down the river. Ive got canoes so all you have to do is show up. Heres a pic of a nice Nam river smallie, over 4 pounds.

Chippewa Flowage has a ton of crappies. I don't eat any of the fish I catch but it's fun and relaxing. We was up there this year in May and we had to have caught over 500 crappies. My arms were sore as hell. It's usually about 15 boats that go with us every year. It's like our own Bass Tournament. I'll shoot you a email next time we go. Got plenty of room in the Ranger if you want to stop by.

Nice small mouth. We usually go to Sturgeon Bay for the football size smallies. I'd definately love to hook up sometime.

Man,I haven't been up their in 30 years. Beautifull place, the muskies would just suck the ducks off the lake. People left their doors wide open as they slept and the keys in the car with windows wide open. Nice little slice of americana up there. Has it changed much?

Still a very nice place, not a lot of people around and if it wasn't for the fishing resorts it would be a ghost town. No phones or cable tv so nothing to do but fish. My AT&T gets very little signal, I have to be in a certain spot with my head tilted and holding my breath to make a call.

Nope it hasnt changed that much, except for the LCO casino and a beautiful golf course called Big Fish. It is still the Musky capital of the world too!:D Here is one of my favorite pics ive taken, about 10 miles from Hayward, it was taken the same day as the pic above.

I am very envious of you man. Haven't been fishing in Wisconsin since I was a kid. We fished the lake (can't recall the name) where the record Musky was caught. I was the only one to land one that year.

Fishing in Minnesota or Wisconsin for a week or two was my family's summer vacation when I was growing up. I miss it.

Good luck and have fun! I know you will. That is God's country up there.

Really Tom,if your that big,ya needs to hold up a fish that equates, like a 20 lb'er. Just kidding....fishing is very relaxing to me. Haven't done it in so long, I may have to take it up again when the grandson gets a tad bit older. Fresh fish, pan fried on an open fire, cold beer...now were talkin'.
