2 sources into one sub

OK so technically I'm using two subs...but the question is essentially the same.

I want to run two independent systems. A HT set up and a dedicated 2 CH set up. Each with use different R/L speakers, preamp and amp.
However, I would like to be able to use the subs with both rigs.

The HT rig will feed the subs via the LFE out-to-LFE in (with a splitter)

The stereo rig will use the second outputs of it's preamp into the line in, utilizing the crossover.

IF I am careful to never actually send signal from both preamps to the subs at the same time, can I effectively leave them both hooked up to the subs?

I'd like to know the answer to that myself. I've been wondering the same thing.

Eventually I'd like to have stereo subs integrated into my HT and 2 channel rigs.

One possibility, would be replacing your 2 channel pre.

I'm thinking about getting a Parasound NewClassic Model 2100. It has a lot great features for HT bypass setups. It has two pairs of main outputs...one pair is full range, and the second pair has an 80hz high pass filter. There's also a third pair of outputs that can be used for subs. The preamp has built in controls for setting the subs XO, and setting the sub level.

It also lets you pass through the LFE signal from your AVR. When you want to watch a movie, the signal goes through the 2 ch. pre, and bypasses the level and XO settings, so your AVR is controlling the sub.

I'm interested in hearing the answer to your original question though, because I've wondered the same thing.

I'm going to guess no though...a signal is generally going to travel down the path of least resistance, which in this case would most likely be the second cable. This could send a signal back into your AVR or pre-amp and potentially cause some damage. Anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on that...it's just kinda speculation.

I think it could work because the LFE in does not pass to the line out on my DSW microPRO 2000.

    Curious minds want to know....
    but know for sure
