BEST SPEAKER CABLE FOR MODEL 10's

Hello,
I wanted to try different speaker wire for my original Polk Model 10's I got in 1985. I have been talking to a guy that tells me that Western Electric from the 70's & 80's is perfect for a nice sweet, warm, mellow sound.
ANY SUGGESTIONS?
My amp is a Onkyo M-504 which tends to me a little Bright and was looking for some wire to calm my mids/highs down. I put the newer SL-2000 tweeters in which really did not do the trick.
I was thinking of getting some modern AudioQuest speaker cable but that would be going the wrong way.
Also, What it the MAX guage the 10's will take?
THANKS

What is the rest of your gear and what cables are you using now?Political Correctness'.........defined

mit cables have always worked well for me-call them and they will tell you what works best with that speaker. or try usedcable.com, they will let you try different cables until you find the one you like. an audioquest slate would mellow out the top end-

Cables won't get rid of brightness nearly as much as swapping in some RDO tweeters in place of those SL2000s will.;)

I'd say ditch the tweets first...
I use an older Oinker M-series amp myself, and it's still pretty warm on my set of Monitor 7Cs. Of course, the rest of my gear is probably different, and my ears are different, soooo....I don't read the newsssspaperssss because dey aaaallllllllll...... have ugly print.

I've had 2 M 504's (still own one)and now use an M 502 just because two other amps aren't working. They all seem pretty neutral to me. Switching out pre amps is where I hear differences with them. Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.

I also have an Onkyo M-504 (original owner) that I bought new in the 80's. At one time, I had the 504 driving my Monitor 10's, and the speaker cable was Silver Sonic T-14. For me, it had just the right synergy and neutral sound. And it's not too costly.
The Onkyo M-504, and especially the Grand Integra, M-508 were aesthetically beautiful and excellent sounding amplifiers. I used to work for Onkyo USA in Jersey years ago in Customer Service (80's). They had an M-510 Grand Integra set up in the lobby, which was a total 'droolfest'! -
If you want budget, cut and terminate a pair of Canare 4S11 speaker cables and call it a day (I may even have some extras). On a less budget size, anything Cardas makes is very musical and you couldn't go wrong with.

HI,
Sorry Out of town.
I am using a Onkyo Grand Integra 308 Preamp, M-504 Amp, Rotel 1070 CD, Techniques 1200 with a 103 Denon MC cart, Teac 3300sx 10.5 reel and a Onkyo Integra Ta-2090 Cassette. The last two components are not used that often. I have AudioQuestBlue Racer interconnects from the CD Player to Preamp & from the Pre Amp to AMp.
Someone said to ditch the tweets, I wish I would have posted this before I just bought a pair from Polk.
I did not mention that my room is VERY LIVELY. It is 12x12x12 and those hardwood floors and high ceilings make it worse. I did put up some Acoustic Foam 2" wedge tile that did calm things down a little but I still need to add some more from their recommendations.
I was reading up on some old Western Electric cloth speaker cable from the 70's and I decided to try some #12 of this old wire. From what I have heard they are warm, sweet and organic sounding.
Will let you guys know soon.
Not to change my thread but what is the best method of cleaning the BP's on these Polks or on my AMP? With all this talk of oxidation of the wires if using bare wire do you cave to do anything to keep the BP clean?
THANKS SO MUCH
