Blockbuster Slow Down

I haved noticed in the last couple months that Blockbuster has signifcantly slowed down their movie rental process. When I first signed up for the 3 movies out at a time plan I could mail a movie on Monday and get the next movie in my queue delivered on Wednesday or Thursday. Now it takes about a week to get the next movie. Also, before when I exchanged a movie at a store they would immediately send out the next movie in my queue. Now it seems like they wait until I return the movie I picked up in the store before they send me the next one. Anyone else experience this?

You have probably been throttled...Netflix does the same thing.

It's a game they play with their "unlimited rental" policy.

You can rent as many as you can but if you rent more than a certain number of movies they start to "throttle" your account. They do this by delaying shipment.

Netflix isn't any better in this regard.

Since I have a store close to me I prefer Blockbuster for the in store returns. YMMV

NetFlix was sued over this a few years ago, and no longer does it. My turnaround is usually same day they receive they ship.

LOL I use to get 2 movies from netflix rip them and have them out the door the same day I would get 20 movies or so done in a week. YES FOR MY OWN USE. But I stopped I needed money for other things.

But I did it because I would go see the movie than rent it than burn it so by that time I paid enough money to own it.

    You're dreaming!!!

I've had Netflix and Blockbuster and believe me they will both throttle you!!

If you don't believe Netflix throttles accounts go over to the AVS forum and read about all of the Netflix users that are pissed for this very reason.

Sorry, no dreaming here. I'm simply providing history, and my current personal experience. If someone thinks they are being throttled then they should sue. It’s already been done, and proven. Precedent is there, so it should be an easy win, if it exists.

GEEZ....I never said the law suit didn't happen!!!!

What I said was, both Netflix and Blockbuster throttle accounts.

Netflix users complain all the time about getting throttled via delayed shipments etc. as do Blockbuster account holders. Go to the AVS forum, there you can read about disgruntled Netflix and Blockbuster users talk about being throttled. It's STILL a common practice used by both companies!

As I said in my post above I've had both Netflix and Blockbuster and they both throttle accounts.

I had Netflix, canceled them because of their extremely long wait for Blu-ray, BB was much faster at the start but soon, they too started with very long waits for Blu-ray, so I canceled them as well. Now, I just buy or if it's something I want to rent I'll wait until I find it on the shelf at my local BB. I also don't rent enough to even warrant the lowest cost for online service.
    If...
Ron dislikes a film = go out and buy it.
Ron loves a film = don't even rent.

I went with BB recently over NF for Blue-Ray turn around, all I care about is latest Blue-Ray, with Blockbusters turn in policy I don't have to wait to mail back the movies before they are counted as turned in, plus being able to rent movies in store too.

You will still read that people are getting throttled with Netflix and every single day someone is complaining about the Blue-Ray turn around with netflix. Same with BB.

Both have their strengths & weaknesses. If you want streaming and older hard to get content go with NF, if you want quicker turn around times for Blue-Ray and the ability to turn in your movies at a BB store and rent from one go with BB.

I would choose one or the other, if you are stuck purchasing movies then you are missing out on a lot of movies you could be seeing that you would never care to purchase.

I am with ya on this Ron. I have BB and Hollywood Video within a mile radius from where I live, so Tuesday morning visit to these place usually let me get the BD version of the new release.
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

Crazy that this thread appeared. I just switched back to Netflix this weekend for the reasons already listed. I went to Blockbuster to save some coin on Blu-rays, but found the prolonged wait to considerably offset the savings. In my experience with both services, Netflix wins hands down in turnaround and selection.

Um... Blockbuster has now eerily shipped me a third movie, even though I am on a "2 at a time" plan. I fear Big Brother is watching us.

I would have to agree...ever since I lowered my subscription to one at a time, I ALWAYS gets the number 1 on my queue. It doesn't matter if the status says, "long wait" either..they will ship it to me. (and I get Blu-ray) I never received the new blu-rays when I had 3 out at a time.

    +1

They were sued for throttling, and lost. They have since revised their terms of service, reserving the right to offer preferential service to their lower volume users.

Yes they changed the policy - when you do an in-store exchange you must return the store rental before another one is shipped.

I'd switch to netflix if i wasn't grandfathered into an incredible plan @ BB.
