I have not heard the RTi-A7 but I did an extended in home demo of the VM-30. This gave me plenty of time to compare them to my RTi-10s, the precursor of the A7. I liked the VM-30 and thought they had great imaging and kind of a SDA type effect since they had multiple drivers.
This last point I think is key for your application since you will not have speakers behind you. I think the VM-30 with a GOOD sub would do well in your application. The SDA effect I mention will give your system a surround type sound. I cannot emphasize enough that if you choose the VM-30s you will need a quality sub to round out the sound.
In my case I preferred my RTi-10s to the VM-30 with the caveat you must have proper amplification to drive them. If you are driving them with a receiver then you could also give a listen to the RTi-A5, which I also demo'd and liked but I have rear speakers. You should listen to whatever you are going to buy if possible but I feel the VM-30 with a good sub would be good for your application.AVR: Elite VSX-21TXH
