Clearing out the stuff i don't actively use. I'm now happy enough with my current pre that i don't have to experiment anymore. :)

Anyways, up for consideration in this thread is an Adcom SLC-505 (straight line controller.) This is a 100% passive preamp, in perfect working order, but we'll give it an 8/10 due to age and very minor cosmetic issues on the back edges. (Pics will follow tonite detailing those issues.)

What i noticed with this, (and being passive, may not even have anything to do with the unit itself, really) was that while using it, my soundstage grew even further from what the B&K offers, and the highs were even more "sparkly" and silky smooth.

I'm asking $100 shipped CONUS or $75 picked up. Also open to interesting trades.

I do NOT have the manual or box.

    Damn. I wasn't expecting that quick of a sale. Did i price it too low? I figured it'd be nice to pass it along for what i paid for it and just use it as a learning experience. I was VERY impressed with the sound, though.

    Troy, i'll keep my eye out. This is the second one i've seen go through locally in the last 3 months. :)

    Not mad. Just razzing you. Im still on fence. Think i want to wait to get my 10's before i commit to a pre. I'm still on fence if i want to get back in tubes or SS.......

    I should warn you though... the GTP-400 HAS been paired with an XPA-2 or two, don't know if that's a dealbreaker or anything. :p

    Well I tried it with the Quicksilvers,, nope,, not enough gain,,tried it in Jerry's Silver 9/Amazing rig--did not do it,, tried it with the cary/sda rig-- nope,, thought about putting it back up when I tried it on the rig with the old VTL's,, so far so good,, the VTL's are finiky when it comes to pre amps,I'll do some listening and post my comments,,I think it's gonna be a matter of finding the right source and amp combination/synergy,, but I think that it's worthwhile,,it seems to pass the signal thru without any coloration. All for now.

    Glad to hear you're having fun with it. :)

    I'm unsure why you aren't having enough gain though.... this is all a bit over my head. I had more than enough gain in my setup.

    It can only attenuate ,not add gain.All the gain is supplied by the source.
    George have you opened it up?any idea as to the quality of pot they used?Alps? Noble?
    I would like one as it would make a great little chassis to add a excellent DIY gain stage or unity gain buffer like a PASS B1.

    It's possible... you sure don't see too many of them. I got this one locally, and the guy i got it from WAS using Polks as his surrounds in his HT setup, and had Polks before he moved to DefTech. :)

    I was VERY impressed with it, and if i had had the rest of the gear i needed, i would have kept it in a heartbeat for a second rig.
