hi, i am new at this and i reeally need some help, i just got a new setup with a HK254, 2 monitors50 as fronts, 4 monitors 30 as rears, CS10 as center and a PSW10 SUB, when a run the EZQ setup from the receiver for a 7.1 system it comes back with the settings below.
Front L R set as LARGE
Center 40HZ
Rears all) 40HZ
and no SUB (basically shows 7.0 with SUB off)
I have the sub connected with a sub cable to the leff input, the low pass set all the way to high like the manual says and the sub is ON i made sure of that, but every time i run the EZQ it takes the sub out of the configuration so i have to questions
I am doing something wrong??
should i manually change the xover settings to something else? ( i believed that my monitors50 shouldnt be set to LARGE, the manual says to set then to SMALL)
any help would appreciated

I never run any of those EZQ/Audessy/etc.
Alot of people love it and swear by it, others use it as a guideline and fine tweak it from there to suite their tastes while others just don't even bother.
I have no experience with that sub, but I would like to make sure you've got it up and running (even though it sounds good the way you hooked it up).
Try listening to some music on stereo mode and enable the sub to ensure it's properly connected and working. If it's new, expect to log on some hours on that thing to have it break in....but if you've got a huge place that PSW10 might need the help of another one or better yet a bigger sub. Make sure sub is enabled in your settings (even if you have to do it manually), and ensure it's playing. You should just be able to manually turn it on too after you've run EZQ anyway.
Another thing, you should set all your speakers to small
Btw, Welcome to CP!

WHen you run your speaker calibration does the sub output the test signal ?

You typed "leff" - did you mean "Left" input or "LFE" input?
Big difference - typos on details can make the difference!
At the HK, is the sub cable connected to the PRE-OUT section of the AVR to the sub output?
Sometimes folks mix up the pre-inputs and pre-outs....just thought I'd ask.

I meant Left input, the PSW10 doesnt have an LFE input.

How do you have it connected to your HK254?
[edit] Also, because the PSW10 does not have an LFE input but only line or speaker level, your AVR will never report the .1 for the sub.
You have two options:
1) connect the sub up via the front speaker pre-outs using rca cables while at the same time having your speakers hooked up to the avr with their speaker wires [CAUTION: some avr manuals do NOT recommend doing this, so this option may not work for you]
2) connect the sub up by running speaker wires from the avr left and right outputs to your sub and then running speaker wires from your sub to your front speakers.
You will have to run your AVR with your fronts = large to ensure the sub gets the full range of frequencies - which means you will not be using any bass management features on your avr for xover frequencies.

Sub cable to the SUB out in the HK254, i setup the speakers manually, all of the speaker set to 80HZ and sub to Present an ON in the HK 254, played the bluray disk J.I Joe 5.1 DTS HD and the SUB played the LOW freq fine during the trailers, but when it played the track from the movie( action scenes with lots of bass the Sub was ON but no sounds at all from it (looked dead) and all freq being played trough all the speakers, any sugestions as to what i am doing wrong???

See my comment above.

I should qualify my own 'expert' advise...
You will still be able to use bass management on your HK for your center and surround speakers, but because you need to have your sub hooked up off of front main preouts or speaker terminals, your fronts will have to be run as Large - and you will have to use the xover control on the PSW10 to set its cutoff frequency.

thanks a lot for all of your responses, i think is too much work around this SUB PSW10) would i be better by getting rid of the PSW10 and upgrading to a PSW505 with a LFE input??

Well - the thing about HT and home audio is that sometimes you have to work with constraints of your rig or experiment with the setup to get the best sound!
The PSW505 would certainly be a step up in sound and convenience cuz it does have the LFE input.
But if you are willing to take that step up then be sure to shop around for other subs too - you can sometimes find a great deal on a used sub.
And the Polk Ebay official site has great deals too.

Thanks, i really appreciate all your help, i'll go with the 505 from Newegg for 229.00 with a 20.00 off coupon and return the PSW10 since is under the 30 return policy still. once again thanks for your time. one more quick question, providing i get the PSW 505, how i should setup my monitors50 2 front and my monitors 30 4 rears and CS10 center 80HZ all of then? and let the sub handle everything lower? , my room is 18x18 i now the freq is for own taste also but they shouldnt be set up to 40HZ as the EZQ auto setup?

HT setup is kinda like the "Pirates Code" - they're more like guidelines (said in pirate voice...arrrrr)
Setup and tweak and experiment for what YOU like best!
You could start with Fronts = small, Bass=Sub, and xover at 80Hz - but then don't be afraid to try different settings.
What I do is use the avr memory to save a baseline setting, then play with the settings - save those to memory and then recall the different settings while listening and compare what I like better.
Enjoy the sonic goodness!
