system advice

Hey all,
I currently have an Energy RC30 setup...but have it up for sale and have been "smitten" with Polk.
I have picked out my system though Rtia9s/Csia6 plus 2 prs of Atrium 60s (Fxia6s r too big for the space) for surrounds.
I watch most of my movies late night, and my kids rooms are directly above me..so I'm skipping the sub for now.

Can I get your thoughts...my room is approx 12 x 20 old home plaster walls/hardwood floor w/thick area rug and DIY acoustic panels. Bluray movies are the priority. These will run off Yamaha RXV3800

Welcome to CP! That should be a good system and serve you well, the A9's + CSiA 6 is a great combo IMHO

Thanks sTiLiLeArNiNg...what's your thoughts on with and without a sub? Movies r my only concern. Any thoughts on Klipsch...everyone seems to indicate they are the speaker for home theatre.
Does RT in RTia stand for "Reference Theatre?"

RTI-A9s are great for HT. The Yammie 3800 lots of power to handle that at moderate volumes.

ALL systems benefit from a good sub but your kids will hear that.

You can function for a while with just the A9s becaise they will put out 30hz which is as good as a small sub but won't give you the bone-rattling lows you'd find in action films like Transformers or Cloverfield, etc.

My reason for getting away from Energy is lack of in your face clarity on movies...........I know this is a Polk forum but i keep hearing "Klipsch" any thoughts?
What's this I hear about Yamaha and Polk being a bad match?

N/P Glad i could have helped for once :o IMHO if you want to fully/truly experience a movie you need a sub but you are under specific circumstance and to be honest you could get away with using just the 9's. Eventually you will crave the added "effect" of a stand alone sub which you could implement later on when it is more convenient for you to do so. On my particular sub there is a "night mode" which reduce's the effect of the sub, perhap's you can demo something similar and judge for yourself?

Personally i don't like the Klipsch speaker's, i find extremely "bright" but apparently their sub's are pretty good. I demoed quite a few set's of Klipsch ranging in cost and found them all to be this way, the Polk's are a more "full" sound and are great at movie OR music reproduction. I couldn't be happier with my Polk purchase :D

TBH i'm not shure exactly what the RT in RTiA stand's for but i think that is a safe assumption to make.

I have Energy Connoisseur C-9's in a 2-channel/HT setup. I have been very happy with their lack of top-end "bite." They are extremely listenable speakers that do not wear you down. They are quite laid-back for sure, but not at all veiled in the treble. The have some of the best tweeters I have laid ears on. I have seriously considered the RC-70's as the next replacement.
