Why? The glass is hard and weighs more. Not being an **** here but that confuses me a bit. Not knowing a lot about TT's, I would logically think that the glass would be the better of the two. Fill me in.

Tom, acrylic, delrin and vinyl are cousins. They have the same properties and damping qualities. Glass resonates much, much more than acrylic. With an acrylic platter (let's say 3/4th of an inch) you can directly couple the record to the platter using the clamp which in esence makes the stylus see a 3/4 " record and all (or most) of the airborne and stylus energy would then be killed by the platter. No mat will be necessary. If you try to directly couple the record to a glass platter with the force exerted by the clamp you run the risk of crushing the grooves and I guarantee there will be reflective energy because of the glass resonance. With acrylic being softer than glass you have less of a chance chipping & scratching and in my opinion acrylic is easier to keep clean not to mention (again) its better damping qualities.

That's all I can think of at the moment. If I can rattle this old brain of mine I'm sure I can give you more information.

    Hope this helps.
