Going to pick up some of my all-time favorites on Blue Ray today.
- Forrest Gump
- North by Northwest
Also, going to get GI Joe and The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3. A better week than most for Blue Rays. I am very interested in Forrest Gump especially since it, along with Shawshank Redemption, is probably my favorite movie of all time. I hope the Blue Ray rocks cause I never got around to buying Gump in Standard Def for some reason....

I'm not quite sure what advantage BluRay has for Forest Gump. I do have it on DVD and it is a good movie, just not a high-def experience for me.
Now, I did just receive an email from Amazon saying season 1 of The Clone Wars in BR just shipped, and later this month Star Trek will finally be released, and next month Terminator Salvation will be released, so this is a good time for BR. No matter what your tastes are.Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable

Well, there are some pretty good potential video elements to Gump (the post hurricane scene with the sunset as Lt. Dan swims on his back, or the sunrise in the desert scene). Mostly for me, I just loved the movie and never picked up a SD version, so I figure why NOT get it on Blue RayMusic and Movie Rig

Funny you should say that because I just watched it on netflix and it seemed really boring this time around . I remember another similar movie but cant think of the title it starts of as the national gaurd going through the swamp on a boat .They decide to open fire with blank amo to scare the locales and end up being picked off one by one in the woodland by homemade traps etc -

For me, hi-def video just means bringing out the higher resolution possible from the original film elements. Not just special effects shots and cgi. Although not as flashy and with limited special effects by today's standards, North by Northwest is supposed to have stellar resolution and video quality being remastered from the original film elements. Since all film needs enough resolution to look good on a theater screen many times larger than even home theater projection screens, these film elements have a much higher resolution and quality than that available on a standard dvd. And have the potential to look just as good or even better than when they were released into the theaters after restoration and remastering. So a film like Gump has the potential for a great upgrade on blu-ray if the remastering process was handled properly.
Audio is a different story as the original audio tracks would have to be significantly upgraded from what the director originally created for older movies if you want effects sequences that rival today's films. But even Gump had some great effects scenes (Vietnam firefight etc.) that may benefit from a good audio remaster. -
While I think Forrest Gump has a lot visually that will benefit from the blu-ray treatment , I am most looking forward to the lossless audio. Gump has a massive historical music soundtrack that will really sound great in hi-def audio.
