I am traveling to a city i've never been to and will have to take a few taxi's around town. I never have taken a taxi.. so I have no idea if they take credit cards or are cold hard cash only.
what has been your experience with taxi's.
roughly how much is it going to cost me for two people for a 35 mile taxi cab ride in a major city? am I looking at $80, $120 or more ?
buses, train's, subways are NOT an option.

In my experience, I've never had the option to pay via C.C, but I heard now in certain cities they offer that option now. Just to be safe, rule out C.C.'s.
For a 20mile ride once when I was stuck in S.D., it cost me about $40 bucks....maybe a little on the cheap side (guess he was being cool) but I was kind of drunk and needed to get home lol.Truck setup

It's flat rate here, 37$ to the airport, and it's only 7 miles. Our airport is all fracked up though. Meters near the city, quoted rate out in the burbs, not too bad. I'd ride the train to the airport, but, I hate zombies. No CC's that I'm aware of yet in Boston.
It might help if you said where you going?-Ignorance is strength - -
There was a law in BOston over the summer that all cabs had to accept credit cards. While I haven't been in a cab in Boston in years, I don't think the law changed.
It would help if you said what city you were going to, as laws and practices differ by city, obviously. If you will it, dude, it is no dream. -
In my experience if you are catching a cab at the airport and you tell them you want to pay via cc, they'll get you a cab that can accept cc. Flagging one down on the city streets it's a mixed bag. More and more cab companies are accepting cc's as the technology is solid, cheap, and available and they would rather not have a cab driver loaded down with cash.
Depending on what city you are going to, your best bet might be to get ahold of a limo company and just have them provide all your rides. They can probably give you a competitive rate and consolidate the billing. If I knew what city I might be able to give you a recommendation.DKG999

IN NYC almost every single taxi now takes Credit or Debit cards.
Also, most major cities have a flat fee charge from major airports to the city.
In NYC that charge is between $35 to $65
I haven't been back in a taxi since August of 2006. Here is why:
JFK to Manhattan = $45 @ 20 miles with a set rate
JFK to La Guardia = $24-$28 @ 11 miles metered rate + any tolls
La Guardia to Westbury, NY. = $93 @ 10 miles because of a screwed up set rate for one part of the ride and then a metering system the doubles fare in some areas, adds in tolls and other surcharges if riding at night between 8PM - 6AM.
I turned in the fare on my expense report and they almost rejected it. The nice (or so I always thought) lady who handles the expense reports in my office started looking into this after I almost came unglued from the rejection. The so called nice lady in my office didn't sound so nice when she was on the phone with the NYC Taxi & Limousine Commission inquiring about the fare. I got my fare reimbursed and learned the nice lady in the office had a mean, dark side with a filthy mouth.
Edit: I just barely had enough cash in my pocket to pay the fare. No CC or debit back then.Testing
