eBay speaker purchase question

When a seller has speakers for sale, not an auction but it has a deadline, and has 2 choices:
A buy it now price selection
OR
A best offer - make an offer selection

what does the "best offer" mean exactly?
Is the seller obligated to honor the "make an offer" selection no matter what the offer is, if no one has elected "buy it now" by the deadline?
There isn't any minimum offer shown.

Or is it simply a negotiation, and the seller has no obligation to accept any offers?

If you do buy it now, obviously they have to accept. The best offer option allows you to make an offer and the seller has 48 hours to accept the offer, make a counter offer or just straight up decline the offer. There is no obligation with the best offer unless the seller accepts your offer.

its a negotiation.. to a point.. sometimes as a seller you can state what you would automatically accept and if someone offers at least that they'll accept but if the offer is below the auto accept amount its more of a negotiation...

Ah OK. So in effect, it's like a Craigslist ad where the seller says, "asking $**** or make offer."
    Thanks.

I have been successful with reasonable offers 100% of the time so far. Got some nice deals.

I have sent ridiculously low offers before and been accepted. At the same time I've been rejected quite a few times. I usually offer just slightly lower than I think they'll take and counter offer up if rejected.
