Nobody does this cuz computer speaks need to be magnetically shielded. Last thing you want is to drop a floppy disk on a speaker and have it erased by a huge magnet.

looseman, Did you try running a Compact amp? 20x2 rms? WWW.PARTSEXPRESS.COM Has a compact 20x2 amp for cheap. Its a RoadGear car amp. Only runs $19.80 + shipping. Then all you would need is a Power Supply 12v or a battery. Use a Headphone to male rca adapter to provide input to the amp. Wire up a Turn on switch. Attach your speakers. And enjoy!
    Just a thought.

That's not true. Computer speakers are sheilded because most users put them right next to the computer screen. If they weren't sheilded, they would destroy the computer screen. Also, floppy disks shouldn't be rested near anything with an EM field around it. Not even a computer screen or on top of the case of the computer itself. However, floppy disks are not that sensitive. You would need to rest the speaker magnet on the floppy disk to damage it.

looseman, there isn't enough information about your speakers and setup to understand what you are speaking of. If you are running a pair of 10 inch woofers and a pair of 8 inch woofers, the little amp on the sound card isn't going to be able to support that in any respect. If you have an external amp, how powerful is it? Is the lack of sound because the sound card in your computer has the volume turned down too far? Also, if all you have is 8 and 10 inch woofers, where do your highs comes from?

well dude -- if u want a simple way to get a lotta BANG out of your comptuer's audio -- just run your little sound card output (even if its a headphone out or whatever it is) straight to the input of your home audio receiver / amplifier... you can then easily wire up a whole slew of speakers to a good home audio 2 channel receiver/amp. or, better yet, just use home audio speakers.

soundblaster Live 5.1 or soundblaster AWE32 are both great for interfacing with audio systems as they have a line level output which is equivelant to the output of a VCR or Television set. this is then easily amped up by the receiver and will slam like hell on a good pair of towers.

The Audigy is the next generation of the Live! series from Creative. There isn't much difference between the Live! and the Audigy. The only differences are that there is no more Legacy code or hardware in the Audigy series and line level voltage is updated. It also works better with Windows XP. If you have an Audigy, it will work the same as a Live! card. Don't worry about it.

I got mine for $138 USD. You can probably get them for between 115-175 USD now depending on where you get it from.

I'm so lazy -- i haven' tkept up on computer stuff since i got my tower like 4 years ago.

whats funny is - at the time - i must have really been up on my shizzit because i didn't really go "out of date" until 6 months ago. its still not far behind what's being sold in stores... if i upped the processor (but then i'd probably need another board to nix that) and threw a dvd burner in there, it'd probably match most electronics store models.

    --- 800 mhz P3
    --- 256 (expandable to 768) mb ram
--- 40 gig + 3 gig hard drive and slave backup
--- 3dfx voodo card with Svideo out
    --- soundblaster live!
    --- 100mb zip
    --- 18x cd burner
    --- DVD / CD rom
    --- onboard usb 1
    --- USB 2.0 adaptor card
--- the usual Lan / Modem / drive controller cards... yada yada.

all be it - that's nothing today - but 4 yrs ago that was "the livin ****"... only thing i regret is that i paid out the nose for it instead of building it myself. gateway raped me for almost 3 grand for the tower, monitor, ground stap monitor filter, and an epson 740 printer.

if anyone knows if they made a dos driver for the pioneer cd rom that gateway was hauking in 1999 / 2000, let me know, because that's the only thing preventing me from putting DOS 6.0 on this in a dual boot.

well its a pioneer DVD/CD rom -- i dont know the model off hand but i will look it up when i get home... its circa 1999 / 2000.

i need the driver for it for Dos 6.0

I dont need the dvd function, just the CD function in Dos. That way i can load up video games and stuff.

    thanks looseman :)
