Office romances.. what do you think or care?

In my office I just found out there is a guy and girl hooking up.. they aren't the only ones.. there are others. And there have been several office hook up's/dating in the past.

Would you or have you ever dated anyone in your office? Did it work out?

I don't care who's dating/sleeping with whom.. I'm just saying, I would NEVER do it.. and why would anyone date a coworker anyways? in a city of 200,000 is the only person you can find to date is your coworkers?

There are too many risks involved in today's workplace. I've seen some very promising careers ruined due to affairs.

I did several girls I worked with when I was 25. Back then it was all good. Lots of executive secretaries to choose from and female sales people (I was a purchasing agent for an aerospace company). Never had any problems but I stayed away from married/involved women so it wasn't so bad. This was 22 years ago, times have changed. I wouldn't even think about it now.

met my wife at work. We were together and working for 8 years. It was never weird at all really. We are both quite people and did not talk much to the others that we worked with so it kept the rumors and gossip to a minimum. Plus we did not really have to interact much at work. We just saw each other around but were in different departments so that helped a lot too. I would say that this was not normal and usually office relationships are a failure.

The only time I've gone out with someone I worked directly with, I knew I was transferring out of that office to a different job (inside job to outside job) in another city the next week.
My equipment sig felt inadequate and deleted itself.

Why would you want to? there are lots of places and ways to meet girls or guys other than work and no risk of being eyed as a jerk by every woman in the place after you break up.

Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

    Hi danger boy.
Office romance is fairly common these days as the office is where we spend so much of our time. Handled well it can lead to a relationship. Handled badly it can lead to a lawsuit for harassment. But romantic involvement between employees is loaded with dangers for both the employees and for their employer. So I also would never do it.
    Thanks.

Usually I wouldn't, but when I first started at my current employer, I didn't plan on staying long anyways, so I figured why not?

16.5 years later I still have the job and the woman. We have three different buildings here, and I usually don't even see her at work. She's the production supervisor, I'm in IT.

I've done it. No strings-attached. A bit of gossip around the office, but not enough to offset the play I was getting every night.
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. I can see how people are drawn to each other.. because yeah they do spend a lot of time together. and maybe have more in common with each other then just their jobs/careers.

but with that said.. I would think it would be boring as hell. lots of gossip from your coworkers.. and what would you and your dating gf/bf talk about? yeah, work.

I've learned dating someone who is not in my line of work is the best. less office gossip from coworkers, i never have to see that person till I get home. and you get to attend twice as many office parties. :D

There's no problem with it. There are a few in my dept that are married to co-workers and are doing just fine. So long as there is no immediate reporting to the other it's cool. If there is, then one has to transfer to a different dept. or position within the unit.

We had a couple where she is an Underwriter, and he was a supervisor of us UA's. No need to transfer since they did 2 totally different jobs. He got laid off ealier this year & is now a stay at home Dad.

My wife and I met and work. We both still work for the same Company. Been married for 5years and together for 9 years total next month.

Another couple who met at our work actually got married the same exact day as us. It was really weird and neither one of us knew until after it happened haha.

I certainly don't advocate office romances. But I wanted to comment on the above quote. I would think that the opposite would be true. If you both work in the same place, then there's no need to talk about work. Can't think of anything more annoying than coming home from a long day, wanting to do nothing but forget about work for the next few hours, and have someone ask, "So, how was work? What did you do today? Anything interesting???"

NO! I don't want to talk about work... after work.
    Ludicrous gibs!
