When comparing amps...

When considering amps, what are a few key specs that should be compared? And which ones contribute the most to quality sound?

I currently have LSi15's, LSiC, and LC80fx speakers driven with an Onkyo 805. I'm looking for an amp to provide this speaker set what it needs. I have honestly only been focusing on the wpc @ 4ohms when comparing the various options. After reading through some recent threads I know the wpc spec does not tell the whole story.

It seems like areas to focus on are; transformer size, peak voltage, damping, class type (A, A/B, D...), and capacitor size/quality. I suspect the answer lies not only in the specific areas but in how they are combined.

I am early in this journey and have much to learn and would appreciate your guidance. thanks

    Hi Cassidy,,

The guys will be around shortly...but for now I'd say although all those things have some effect it isn't that simple...specs alone are not going to tell you what an amp will sound like! In the end you can only use them as a guidepost to start 'listening' to gear in the 'real' world which cannot be measured in some purely scientific and objective manner. The subjective dimension looms large here!
