Bit of a rant

So...I have an amp coming on Friday. Through some miscommunication, it's being delivered to my former address - about 10 minutes from my house. I don't know the owners, so inquired how to get it changed. I know it doesn't ride a truck from the destination to here - it gets off a plane and is re-routed to the final destination. I know it's not convenient, but they want 25 dollars to do that. Shipping was 30.00 total. So, it costs 30 dollars to ship it across country from Minnesota to NJ, and it costs 25 dollars to put it on a different truck. I guess I have to go ring a doorbell, introduce myself as the former home owner, and beg them to call when it comes. I think that's ridiculous.

yeah that sucks man. i've never had to do that. or you can just camp out in their front yard.. since it was your old crib.. and wait for the man in brown to show up. :p

sorry. i know you're not smiling.. but a $25 dollar charge is their way of laughing at you for writing your old address.

It's $25 because of the giant pain in the **** it would be if everyone just decided to switch stuff up in-transit. It's annoying for you, but put yourself in their shoes. :D

Yeah, I can see a charge, but almost as much as it is to ship? 10 dollars maybe? Come on...I may as well cancel it and have them reship for that price.

    Doh!

Sounds like a "suck it up" situation man. I understand the charge. I personally receive all shipments at my work address. No missed deliveries and there is a loading dock for oversize items. ;)

    It's like you didn't read what I just wrote....:p

They're charging you $25 (it's probably a flat rate) to prevent people from switching addresses in the middle of transit. Does it suck? Yes. That's exactly the point.

Their system is streamlined for efficiency and they don't want what you're doing to be commonplace among their customers.

It's like when a company charges a restocking fee. It's a deterrent. The only reason you had to pay the $25 was because you or the shipper screwed up. Sucks, but lesson learned. :o

LOL, IIRC Demi has a past in the shipping business, possibly even Military if memory serves. I could be thinking of someone else, but I'm not sure.

No military for me, but I do deal with freight companies almost on a daily basis. I have been nicked for some pretty nasty fees on less than truckload shipments of palletized freight. They'll charge you anywhere from $25 - $75 if you want them to make a phone call to your customer before they deliver the freight.

The initial reaction over stuff like that is to be pissed off, but then you have to yourselves in their shoes. They're goal is to be as efficient as possible. Making them do things out of their normal range of operation disrupts their efficiency.

What those kinds of fees have done to me is make sure all the 't's' are crosses and 'i's' dotted before freight ever leaves my dock. If I'm shipping overseas, I make my international customers pick their freight forwarder and customs broker (when needed) and I only ship collect.

So, at the consumer level I sympathize with people who get nailed by these seemingly arbitrary fees. They make good money on them, but they're definitely there to serve a purpose as well.

There are personal responses and financial realities above. I can understand both and both have a time and place...it's OK to rant, and it's also fine to respond to that!

Hmmm, I have zero people on my Bozo list, but that may change here in a few minutes, lol. Chill man, not everyone is going to agree with you, or know where you are coming from on everything. Besides, Mike (Keiko) lives in Hawaii so I'm sure he knows all about REAMING when it comes to shipping.

You could always just buy your goods from Canada if you don't like the cost of buying from the U.S.

We pay through the nose when importing, too, so I'm not sure what you're going on about.

The only thing that sucks about the BOZO list is I end up reading the crap anyway in a quote.
