the story goes like this: i have 2 pairs of component speakers up front (polk DX series). i dont have rear speakers right now. i have a JL audio 300/4 amp pushing the components and a 500/1 pushing a MOMO in a .88 sealed enclusure. I have an alpine head unit it w/ 4 volt pre outs. currently the gain is not set to were it should be, its only a little less than half way up. the EQ is flat and the bass boost is off. my problem is it is EXTREMELY bright!! the tweeters are at -3! i dont have the best midbass up front either. so i was wondering if you could give me any tips. the mids in the door are cut off at 80hz and the 5 1/4 mids in my kick pods are cut off at 150hz... i have messed with this for a couple weeks now and its driving me nuts! at lower volumes the SQ brings a tear to my eye... when i crank it my ears almost bleed! thanks for all your help! i really need it!

cut the fronts off at 100 in the doors / 100 in the kicks -- ifu're kicks rattle... glass them and seal them off.

150 x 2 at 2 ohms is like 75 w / speaker -- my girlfriend's car does what you're tlaking about -- how it gets too bright, too "tinsey" and undefined.

she's got the polk dx up front with like 65 x 2 on them.

somehow i avoided that problem with a minimum of 140 x 2 (now over 160 x 2) on my polk dx comp fronts. somethin about putting more power to them smooths everything out.

try runnin the 300.2 on just the one pair in front -- so it does 150 x 2 to just the set in the doors -- x them at 100... see how it sounds. hopefully it'll be the smoothed out improvement you're looking for.

also -- "-3" is sometimes tricky -- i had mine on -3 and they sounded like there was way too much trebble --- but whats funny is it was the opposite in reality -- i flipped up to "+3" and all of a sudden it was balanced again. i have no idea why, but sometimes the ear can tell us that there is one problem when its actually a difft one.
