TiVo and Time Warner

I'm in the Dallas area and have time Warner as my cable provider. As anyone who has this service knows, our dvr boxes are terrible. I want to upgrade to a TiVo box, and am reading that this should be possible with a cable card.
Does anyone have any experience with this, any input on how well it works?

I have a friend that works with Time warner here in NC. I will ask him tomorrow about that.

I'd do some reading over at Tivocommunity. There have been some changes to the way cable providers are sending the signal that is having a major compatibility problem with the TIVO boxes.
Something called SDV.
