This is kinda ghetto, but...

I don't have an amp for my sub, so for a while, I just connected it up to the center channel, and had all my speakers set to large in my receiver.
This morning, I disconnected the sub, and then attached both a positive and negative input from both the left and right front channels. (There are actually four wires at the end of the sub wire instead of two.)
I really like the sound, but when I try and turn up the volume, my receiver says overload.
Is this going to go away like after the sub is being used a lot, or am I pushing too much into it?

Geez, I'm afraid that the sub driver you're running is a 4ohm sub (like most car/home subwoofers are) so you're creating instability issues with your AVR.
On another note, I wouldn't suggest keeping that setup....you're definitely going to eff something up.Truck setup

Hrm... Resistors?... I really need that bass... Any suggestions on how to power it?

New sub it is then... Or full speakers... LoL...

Um... I have a question... What is a passive sub?

A passive sub does not have an onboard amplifier. Therefore, you need an amp to drive it. People often use pro amps for this as it is a lot of power for not much cash.
Good luck,

Maybe he should keep it that way, so when he blows up his avr he can buy something new!
Lol I guess that's a good way of thinking about it Sal.Polk addict wrote: »Um... I have a question... What is a passive sub?
Passive sub is just what was explained up above, of course not to be mistaken for a passive radiator. A passive sub has no onboard amplifier, and is powered by an external amplifier only. "Powered subs" are those with built in (plate-style) amps, which offer convenience but comes at a higher price.
Why don't you buy a powered sub or buy an amplifier to power the driver you currently have? If it's because of a short budget, we might be able to give you a good suggestion at what you should do to properly use your sub and not eff anything else up.Truck setup

If possible, yes I would like another suggestion, since yeah, I don't think I'm going to be getting any additional audio equipment from my parents besides wires...
Edit: The way it was setup, my speakers actually became mono, so I disconnected the sub from the system completely...
