Hello

I have been very fortunate in finding a NIB Polk Signature Reference Theater System at a liquidation here in California. I will be using a 46" Mitsubishi LT-46153 1080p LCD for the video. I'm soliciting recommendations regarding an amplifier and DVD player to complement this exceptional SRT system. If you reply, you need to know that I know squat about current audio systems. Your constructive suggestions will be appreciated.

Thank you,

Aussie

Who had a SRT in the box ? Do you know how old that system is?
A good dvd player would be one from Pioneer ELite. Amps there are many that power that system very well. Adcom , Rotel , Sunfire , NAD just to name a few. It's pretty easy to find good power amps new and used.

    Hello mantis,
My son's employer, a furniture manufacturer had to "scale down" and moved and gave the un-used SRT system to him/me. It's 10+ years old but is still in excellent condition. Thanks for your recommendation.

For dvd, I recommend Oppo Bdp-83.
For an multichannel Amplifier, I recommend Parasound Halo A51.
You need at least 200 wpc rms per channel to make them sing.

    Gave you? Are you serious.
This is perhaps the most sought after system I have seen within the forum. CONGRATS on that score.

As far as power goes, this system love lots of it from what I understand. Others can chime in on that.

You have to be kidding me! A NEW SRT system in CA. Just what I've been looking for over the last 10 years! they are hard to score in good condition. Congrats on a fantastic set of speakers! I have an Adcom driving my polks and they do sing. Highly recommend you follow ESAVION's advice. He has several sets of SRTs and would know how to get the most out of them.

SWEET deal! :D If you'd like to get a new amp with good warranty, GREAT customer service and a decent price tag check out the Emotiva gear. I run an xpa5 and am very pleased with it's performance thus far :o

    Aussie,

Exactly what did you get as the SRT's came in a few different configurations and did you get the controller?

Since you didn't say and no one asked, how much money you are willing to part with?

There are other choices that would be better suited to the SRT than EMO would be.

I am not certain I would even recommend Sunfire for them. I would be thinking more along the lines of Krell, Levinson, or Classe

A question for the experts. Since these speakers have SDA technology in them, do they require the (can't remember now) common ground or non-common ground amps as do the other SDA speakers?

Not sure I'd want to connect a 'bargain amp' to these.....

The SDA signal is handled thru the controller, so any amp(s) can be used.

    Yeah, they deserve better.

Don't be fooled by my statement that they are a "bargain" amp, they are worth double if not tripple what they sell for ;)

People REALLY get their feather's ruffled when a sub $1k amp can easily compete with one's that are priced 2 to 3 time's more :o

But don't take my word for it because i'm just a stoopid Canuck! Have a look around the web and see what other's that are open minded have to say about the Emotiva amp's ;)

    The controller has three features:
    1. Sda management.
    2. Subwoofer controller.
    3. Non common Ground AI interface built in.

I partially agree with your statement but do not support it completely.

    Let me explain why:

The SRT speakers consist of a pair of satellite speakers and a pair of active subwoofers. I used my krell ksa-250 to power the satellites and immediately noticed that the plate amplifiers powering the subs were lacking in finesse and control. My SRT sounded horrible, disjointed.
There is a workaround this issue simply transform the active subs into passive subs and power the subs with any high quality amplifier.

That I didn't know, but it makes perfect sense.

Guess what it uses: an avel torroidal transformer most likely the same one used to make the custom AI for the vintage sda series.
