recently got suckered in by bose, was wondering if their are any basic tools to simplify audiophile terminology, providing me with the tools to make sense of it all. I am in the beginning stages of setting up a home entertainment center. already decided to go with polk speakers but unfamiliar with receivers and amps. found a pair of lsi9's for bout 600$ and really considering in starting of with those since for a pair of brand new ones seems like a great deal. eventually considering to build a 5.1 home theater system, wondering if anyone had any advice for some one in my newbie status that would have any recommendations on setting these speakers,or anything to consider, thanks much appreciated..:o

    Welcome Toeknee to Club Polk!

Sorry about the Bose thing, but those LSi's you're looking at are some pretty fine speaks. Thing is with the LSi lineup, their speakers are rated at 4ohms so it is imperative that you have an amplifier that can feed the power hungry LSi's and remain stable at said-load. If you reconsider going with the RTiA series, you can run them off an AVR but keep in mind they too love to be fed lots of power so getting a receiver with a preamp outputs in your case is a must.

What is your budget so far for your 5.1 setup? Do you have a subwoofer? How big is your living space?

3000$ but to build up in time,no subwoofer, living space is lngth 12'xwdth 18'x hght 9'. am thinking of starting of with a center and the lsi9's plus the receiver and possibly if needed an amp that will eventually support 5.1. later if finances allow the rti a7's with a sub not need be polk but that covers room nicely, thanks to the reply kawizx9r

Welcome to Club Polk Toeknee. If you start with the LSI's you have to stick with the LSI's since they sound totally different from the RTI series & would clash.

You will definitely need an amp of at least 200wpc for the LSI's. Get it when you get whichever receiver you decide on. Get the receiver that has all the bells & whistles you want it to have & make sure it has preouts for the amp.

This fellow is selling a 5 channel amp that will take care of your power needs just fine. Email him & see what he says.
