SDA SRS 1.2tl vs. original SDA SRS

Tonight I traded my original SDA SRS speakers for a set of SDA SRS 1.2tl speakers with Hamatym. It was interesting to compare the two side by side. The SDA SRS' had the new RDO 194 tweets installed in them. Hamatym was looking for the deep bass sound of the originals. You could here the bass and feel the bass in the originals. The RDO's does take the harshness out of the SL2000's at high volume levels. Dan seemed to be looking for this sound and he seemed to be pleased. I am sure he will chime in when he gets a chance. I have been playing the SRS 1.2tl's for over an hour. It is certainly a different animal. The mid's and highs are outstanding. The bass seems to be refined. They do sound different compared to the original SRS. My SRS 1.2 set is much more comparable to the originals sonically. Now that I have owned all versions of the big boys, I can honestly say all of them are great speakers in there own right but for clarity of voices and instruments at high volume levels, I am truely impressed with the
SRS 1.2tl's. Teamed up with my Yamaha Mx1000 amp it is simply jaw dropping. WOW

I was wondering if anyone know what kind of finishes were available for SDA SRS 1.2tl's. I have seen them in oak but the pair I just acquired is dark almost like walnut. Is the dark finish considered a walnut or a cherry finish, just curious.Polk HT system 1: LSIC, LSI25 mains, LSI F/X rears, Lsi F/X rear centers,

I've always thought the "big boys" were overrated and I have a pair of SRT as well. The real magic for me was always in the smaller SDA.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I have SDA 1C's, SDA 2B's, SRS 2's and CRS+ speakers and none of them compare to SDA SRS 1.2tl's. Don't get me wrong all of the speakers I listed are great speakers in small to medium rooms. All of the big boys need a larger room to open them up. It's just like having a corvette. They are nice around town but the fun begins when you are on a highway and can really open it up. You need a big room to really appreciate these speakers. Just my opinion.Polk HT system 1: LSIC, LSI25 mains, LSI F/X rears, Lsi F/X rear centers,

Hey BlueComet, you indeed need a larger room to truely appreciate the SRS's....I know they sound completely different at my dad's house than my smaller house. I totally agree with your statement above, depending on the music type and system you have will determine which SRS is for you. The TL's are awesome, but I like the booming bass and efficiency of the originals. (not the the TL's are bad) I ge back this weekend and can't wait to hook them up and do a side by side between the SRS's with SL2000 and now with the upgraded RDO's...I'll let you know!
Anybody know of a link for re-doing the wood caps and sides? I am interested in refinishing the SRS's for a factor look...Thanks -

With my 1.2 and 2.3's what made a big difference and for me brought the bass out was tubes! It was like I got a whole new speaker when i put a Tube pre on the McIntosh amp. The bass was much more tighter and deeper. When I first got my 1.2 I thought my carver amazing actually sounded better till i got a tube preamp, that changed it around completely!Klipsch The Nines, Audioquest Thunderbird Interconnect, Innuos Zen MK3 W4S recovery, Revolution Audio Labs USB & Ethernet, Border Patrol SE-I, Audioquest Niagara 5000 & Thunder, Cullen Crossover II PC's.
