SDA-CRS mods to run as center in HT setup

Hi,
What mod do I need to make to the SDA-CRS+ so that this can be used properly as a center speaker ?

I started thinking about it from the numerous posts in the forum suggesting that the SDA-CRS are a good match as a vintage center.

I plan to use 2 SDA-CRS for my center channel. One below the screen and one above. Since they will both be receiving the same signal, the SDA speakers will not be used. I have the newer version of the SDA-CRS- one tweeter, 2 mids

I have a pair each of the 11TL, 8TL and the SDA-SRS 2- havent decided which one of these is going to be the mains- most possibly its the 11TL for its sound and small footprint.

I'm curious about the responses that you get, because I have the same idea about a pair of CRSs (without SDA function) as centers. I have SRS 2's for mains with a Carver TFM-55 powering them, and either another set of SRS 2s or RTA11ts for rear, to be powered with an Adcom GFA555. The centers, whatever it/they turn out to be, will also be powered with another GFA555. Has anyone ever simply rewired the CRSs to run both of the MWs as conventional speakers?

I have actually done this before...really simple...and the tiny cabinet and huge radiator opening in the rear makes this a piece of cake. Polk uses simple 12db per octave crossovers, you dont touch those...you only change where the dimensional driver gets its signal from..thats it....you parallel it up with the exact same point feeding the stereo driver ( Of course removing the dimensional connections at the same time ...this all done internally...VERY easy and easily reversable if you want them back stock.) .

The internal drivers are now still crossed over at the same point ( One uses a 2.5mH/20uF...and one a 1.25mH/40uF compensating for the different dimensional 6511's DCR etc...not gonna matter whatsoever in your usage .....the speaker goes from an 8 ohm nominal load to the amp to a 4 ohm nominal load to the amp...then EXTERNALLY you connect the 2 speakers ( With whatever you are running from your amp) in series to bring the load presented back to the amplifier to 8 ohm compatable IF you need this...of course you will blend any db differences between the twin centers and L and R speakers with the AVR's internal calibration with microphone.

Its easy and sounds great....with the plus being is easy to go back if need be. I am also using center channels above and below my 58" plasma...works great. I can come help you if you like :)

Look for posts by a Polkie named Larry Chanin.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

John, I am going to take up that offer of help on making the changes to the CRS! I am going to call you soon.

The rt2000i is tempting but the center channel wont fit in an upright position without covering my projection screen.

    Thanks.

Thanks to shadowofnight for the feedback! I may try it if I can get my hands on a pair of CRSs at a reasonable price.
