hey all, i need some help!

before I begin, i should specify my system components:

Polk Dx12 subwoofer-4 ohm
Boss rev-635 amp, 2x200, 400x1 (i will use it bridged)
No cd player
prestige 2 way speakers
1989 plymouth acclaim

ok, I am saving money for a JVC KD-lx111(el kammelion), but I cannot wait!. So i decided to set my system up and use a "makeshift" cd player.

Here is my plan: I have an Aiwa portable CD player, and it it hooked up to my factory cassette player via cassete adapter. To hook my amp up to it, what I want to do it by two Y-adapters for my system.

One Y-adapter will be a 3.5 MM to dual 3.5mm(it basicly lets you hook two headphones to one input) then I will get a 3.5 MM to dual RCA, Y adapter. I will hook the dual 3.5mm to my cd player, from the two 3.5 MM outputs I just created, I will hook one to my cassette player(via cassete adapter). and the other 3.5 MM out put, I will connect it to the 3.5 MM to Dual RCA adapter. then, I will hook the two RCA cables to my amp, then to my subs. W

Will that work???? i mean, my portable Cd palyer will have two outputs now, one will be for my factory stereo, the other for my amp
tell me what you think.

also, i plan on using 8 gauge wire to wire my amp, will that be suffiecent enough?

thank you for your reply
Whoa! Denied!

Okay, first of all... when you're using Y adapters, you usually end up with one side of the adapter that doesn't get as much signal as the other. At least, that's what I've found.

Also, volume adjustment may be a pain in the ****. You can always get the head unit and the amp evened out, then adjust the volume on the CD player itself, but remember that you can't push a whole lot of power into a cassette deck. If you turn it up too loud, you'll get crackling and distortion, and possibly damage the head unit.

The way I did it with my stock head unit in my '94 Plymouth Voyager is I found the wires for the rear 6x9s and spliced into them using some nifty splicers I picked up at RatShack that don't require you to actually cut the wires apart. Anyway, I did that (had to remove the paneling from inside... was a pain, but worth it) and ran some 16 gauge speaker wire out into the back of the car. Then I hooked that up to a powered crossover and took the low-level output from that into the amp. It's a Jensen amp pushing two 10" Advent subs bridged at 150watts.

I should note the semi-permanence of this particular setup... However, I'm thinking of getting a new head unit for this car this summer 'cause it looks like I'll be driving it for at least another year.

8 gauge for your amp should be enough, but you may want 4.

Go to Radio Shack. I bought an adapter that converts Headphone to Stereo RCA male ends. Its a cable that is about 3' long. I used it to hook my TV's Headphone Jack to the Stereo RCA input of my Home Theater receiver. Never had a problem. I think it cost about $5 or $10.

well -- i'm not even gonna venture to do the math on this and figure out headphoen jack voltage, cuz even if the V is there the current isn't...

I really would not do any of what you're sayin -- run the tape deck adaptor thing so u can play cd's on your regular 2 speakers or 4 speakers, but dont even think about mixing an amp in that package

u can run high level inputs from the rear speakers patched in parallel to the amp if its got high ins or get a line out converter for 30 bucks, but by no means would i ever suggest anybody running a head phoen jack into an amp's rca ins.

some kid ran a playstation audio output into an mtx 6500D, had to crank the gain all the way to max in order to get it to put out sound and then the damn thing caught on fire and stunk like rotten cheese.... no lie.

my buddy's got it in his basement -- its his boss's son's amp -- his bos was like "dude can u fix this" ... he's like "um... wtf happened to this" -- he had it laying in his car for 5 minutes and the whole car stunk like hell. one cooked amp.
