SDS 2.3TL tweeters

Hi; I have two tweeters that the dome was pushed in on when the previous owner put the grills on upside down. Both tweeters still work. Has anyone tried to remove the coil assembly and pushed the dome back out with say a pencil eraser? Can you mix the old syle tweeters with a new tweeter from Polk? Thanks!

Since the dome includes 2 layers of different metal films, if they're creased now from being pushed in they're probably creased forever. But you don't have much to lose by trying.
When you remove the voice coil assembly, take a very thin piece of plastic (I used the plastic post-it page flags but anything that won't leave fibers or debris in the voice coil gap is fine) and stir it around in the voice coil gap to see if the ferro-fluid is still liquid.
If it's not, that's probably a good indication you should replace all the tweeters. There are cases where 1990's-era ferro-fluid gets clumpy after all these years, not just on Polks.
Since these are the bottom tweeters (or I assume they are, since that's where the grill brace hits on mine if I flip them), if you did want to try and just replace 1 tweeter per speaker, that would be the one that is least likely to show a difference.
But I think the overwhelming consensus is to replace them all if you replace one -
Once creased they will never become uncreased. If you simply want to pull the domes out, try using tape applied to the outside of the dome.
Mixing new news with old ones will work, but there is a difference in the sound between them. I'd recommend replacing all of them. You can thank me later.Political Correctness'.........defined

Ok; I tried using tape to pull out the domes and it sort of worked but not to well. Since I now have to replace two tweeters, would I get the new sound if I put the new tweeter in the top spot since that is the one which puts out the most sound while the two lower tweeters are much softer in sound. Has anyone tried this? Thanks!!!

You can certainly try. Replace-remove the pollyswitch is highly recommended also. -
you can also try and find some used ones on here or e-bay, I think a sl-2500 will work also.

Hi All; Thanks for your help. What is the pollyswitch? Thanks!

Hi All; Thanks for your help. What is the pollyswitch? Thanks!
The pollyswithch is protection for your tweeters, if it gets to much power it will shut off and then re-set and come back on when the power gets lower. Good idea, trouble is over the years it gets weak and starts tripping at low levels and affects sound quality. Polk will send you some new for free. -
The SL2500 will not work and it's a polyswitch, also known as a PTC resettable fuse.
Polk is no longer stocking them. Mouser sells them.Political Correctness'.........defined
