OK everyne is different. I have narrow ear canals, and many have larger ear canals. Grab your ear lobs and move them forward and backward. Up, and down. The sound of your system does not change, but nearly everything else does. Just for fun try it. Nobody can see you so have fun.

The system still is the same exact system, but the sound perceived is much different. The purpose of this little exercise is to show that people's perspective of audio is not only based on the systems themselves, but the human perspective of said systems. The whole point is many people argue back and forth about whether you can or cannot hear the differences between equipment, or cables. People go as far as telling other people what they can or can not hear. The whole purpose of this exercise is to show that people process sound differently. This little exercise is just manipulating the shape of your ears. Now think how much different our minds are from each others.
Just a little bit to chew on.

I tried this and while I was doing it I happened to **** really loud and kinda long. It definitely sounded different as I was going back and forth and up and down, but I can assure you it still smelled the same as it always does, terrible.

I dig what you saying now--you said the sound does not change so you lost me, but now I know you meant the sound characteristic of your system...

Yeah-I find that leaning forward from the chair a bit changes the sound--no sound bouncing off the back of the chair, etc. Or sometimes I'll cup my hands behind my ears--really accents certain frequencies. Lately I've found that just putting my head down, (looking into my lap), so essentially the speakers are 'above' my ears, really exposes certain sounds I don't normally hear as pronounced.

this. i've noticed many years ago that when i look down at my junk, i can hear treble which i normally can hardly hear at all. i guess that's why i ain't jumped to replace my sl3000's with 198's as most others do.

Yep for me, looking down, its definately the higher frequencies that are louder/clearer.

If I lean forward in my listening position, the bass becomes very noticeably stronger, but the SDA effect is very diminished...if I lean back, the SDA effect is fantastic, but the bass gets a little thin. I've always found it amazing that moving my head as little as a few inches can make such a drastic difference.

If I tilt my head back, the mid-range withdraws a bit, and the highs become very forward sounding.

The really strange one is everything sounds muffled when I plug my ears???? Oh yeah, and as far as looking down at my junk the only thing that happens here is I feel depressed.
