I have a Denon 3200 receiver connected to my polk cs 400i center speaker with the volume setting to the max. Whenever I play dvd's or watch dss in dolby digital the center channel is not near as loud as the max setting I have it on. I am using the original monster cable and have checked my connections which appear to be OK. When I do a test tone the sound is now very loud from center. Any idea why I am not getting more sound from my center channel???

Do you have a digital connection going to the reciever? Do you have DD turned on? How about the dvd does it have a DD decoder, how are those settings?

When you say 'volume set to the max' is that the master volume or the volume being sent to the center through the Denons speaker set-up menu? -
Yes I have all dd connections set correct and my dvd player has dd decoder.
Also the max volume setting I am referring to is the one for my center channel. -
You do have the Denon set-up WITH a center channel ON correct?
I don't have a DVD player with a built in decoder but I would think it should be bypassed (turned off) if you are going to use the Denon's decoder.
What are your main speakers?
Try hooking up a differnt speaker, is it also at a low level?
Try hooking your center up to one of your main speaker outputs, how does it sound now?
Just a few guessesDodd - Battery Preamp
Monarchy Audio SE100 Delux - mono power amps
Sony DVP-NS999ES - SACD player
ADS 1230 - Polk SDA 2B
DIY Stereo Subwoofer towers w/(4) 12 drivers each
Crown K1 - Subwoofer amp
Outlaw ICBM - crossover
Beringher BFD - sub eq
Where is the remote? Where is the $%#$% remote!

The CS400i is very effecient (loud).
I have mine powered by a Denon 3801 and it keeps up
nicely with my Polk SRS SDA 3.1TL's (large main's) which
are powered by a seperate Krell amp.
You might want to set this speaker to "small".
This will lighten the load on your receiver and it will
sound louder. Lower bass eats lots of watts.
Also, everything is relative. Turn down your main speakers and the center will "appear" louder. Then, just crank up the master volume.
Or, you just might have a bad driver (loose wire or something)
in the CS400. -
Thanks for all the great recommendations but I have done them amoung other things. It appears that there might be a problem with the center output on receiver.
