Remember the World Series between the San Francisco Giants and the Oakland A's being interrupted by the 6.9 earthquake?

How about the collapse of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge?

Or the upper deck of the Cypress Structure collapsing onto its lower deck?

I remember watching the World Series at home, and then all of a sudden, a series of sharp jolts knocked the power out. Then one of my big Sony tower speakers (which I still have) toppled over. I didn't think it was such a big deal until news of the collapse of the Bay Bridge started trickling in. This was before the internet and cell phones, so I was worried about my parents and my sister, who weren't at home at the time.

Has it really been 20 years?

i dunno if it was from this earthquake, but does anyone remember the picture of the 18 wheeler (i think, maybe just a larger truck) that was on an overpass and in front and behind him it had collapsed? Anyone remember what I'm talking about?

I'll never forget I was at football practice when it hit and didn't think it was that bad untill I got in my car and heard on the radio "The Bay Bridge has collapsed". I was living in Hayward at the time.

See the last photo in my original post. The truck is in the only uncollapsed section of the Cypress Structure.

I am now living in Castro Valley and right on top of the Hayward Fault, which most scientists say will cause "The Big One" if it were to happen in Northern California.

Yup I heard that too. It was hot and humid in the South Bay (the humidity was unusual, and noteworthy -- earthquake weather!). I was at work, in Sunnyvale, trying to get home to Milpitas (as my wife had to go somewhere and I needed to take care of the kids). I was at a traffic light when it hit; it was very surreal. All of the radio stations on the car radio went out. All of the power in the Sillycon Valley went out, too. It took me 4 hours to get home; no cell phones then (at least for me) -- I didn't know what I'd find when I got home. As it turned out, very little damage at my house... but of course many others were not so lucky.

One of my co-workers was on the I-880 "Cypress Structure" and spent the night helping to pull people/bodies out.
