Cleaning speaker grill cloth

Hello,

I have a titanium SurroundBar 42 and PSW10 that I will be putting up for sale. The grills have some small spots on them that I want to remove. The SB 42 had a small dark spot that I tried to sponge off with clean water. Doing this actually left a larger water mark and didn't remove the small mark. I should have left it alone. The sub also has a small (1/2") stain of unknown origin. How can I clean these? Should they be sent to the dry cleaners? Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Regards,
Jim

I like Resolve Fabric/Carpet cleaner. It's one of those products that just works.

Well, the Resolve didn't work. Polk CS recommended a thorough washing with mild soap. I filled the bathtub with warm water and Ivory dish soap and immersed the grills, gently scrubbing with a new sponge. Patted them partly dry and put them out in the sun to finish drying. The small spots are still slightly visible, but the watermarks from previous cleaning attempts are gone. I also tried some fabric spot remover before washing with no luck. Since the watermarks are gone I am just going to consider myself lucky that they aren't spoiled altogether.

NB: These grills have plastic frames. Don't try this on grills with particle board frames.

Polk CS said that they are a cotton/synthetic blend.
