That Warm, Fuzzy Feeling

Before I start this, I have to tell every one this fact: I have very few friends/aquaintances that appreciate good music/sound reproduction. It must be where I live or maybe I just don't have many friends, period! Anyhoo...

A co-worker helped me install a new hot water tank at my place. We have talked at work about music and stereo stuff several times and I always tell him he should come over and take a listen sometime. Well, the time came for a listen.

After hearing several tracks from The Eagles/Hell Freezes Over CD, he looks over shaking his head and says, "I have heard these songs a hundred times before, but this is the first time I have really HEARD them. You can literally locate every instrument and voice on stage. You don't hear speakers at all, it's just music."

You hear something like that and you think, I'll be damned, it was worth all the time, effort and money. :D

Poor guy. Now he'll be spending all his time and money trying to put together a rig like yours!:D

Poor guy indeed. The WAF is rearing it's ugly head at his house. He wants a decent system but she says "your not getting any big ugly speakers, I don't care how they sound".

I have to admit, my crazy ex was pretty cool about my gear. Strange how some marriages aren't exactly 50/50-you have your hobbies, I'll have mine.

Its funny I have a friend who's a musician and he wanted to play me his new demo CD. so I go over to his house and he has a POS all in one compact with the left channel blown hooked up to some Quasar speakers. He said this sounds OK but the computer speakers sound great.... yuck. So I got him over to my house and we listened to the entire CD and he is usually pretty talkative, but he just sat there. Then when it was over he asked if I would mind playing it for the whole band sometime. When they left they were all asking how much I would sell for or where they could get some.
So I know what you mean, it feels good for your hard work to be appreciated by others, congrats man!

Well Bob, your job now is perfectly clear to me. You should help him find some very nice electronics on the cheap if possible, and we both know it's possible. Then fix him up with a nice sub/sat system of your own construction. Nothing off the shelf. You can pick up an awful lot of Radio Shack Minimus 7 or 77 (just one example) for very little money, and some kind of competent sub for even less if you apply yourself.
