Suppose to be a classic but I can't find any info online. Could this be the MG-1? I may be able to score on a pair and was wondering how they sound.

I just recently scored a pair myself, in extremely mint condition
Here's the thread I posted on them - http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?t=89718
I couldn't find much info on specific models either, pretty much anything before 1987 or so. But I did find this, hope it helps - http://www.integracoustics.com/MUG/MUG/articles/speakers.html
MUG is awesome for their valuable info on tweaks/repairs/etc.

Thanks for the help. Sounds like it's good. If everything goes well, I may have a pair on Tues.
omg man, they're very big. 7" taller than my Mirage's and a little wider, but the 2" depth is just tripping me out.
I think I'll have to go with your wife on this. They are butt ugly, IMO of course:). Is it easy to replace the fabric grills?
If I get them, I'm sure I'll enjoy the sound, but don't think I can ever get used to the looks lol.
I'm quite interested in them because my M-3si were made to compete with planars/stats back in the day. Mirage used to have ads in old audio mags comparing their radiation patterns. Should be an interesting experience. -

Yea, they're exactly 5' tall....and they're not really their 'big' model either.
I don't like the brown color of the sock TOO much, but it gives it its vintage look and blends in with the floor/rug. You can order socks for about $30 bucks if you want to get a different color or simply to replace the current one. I think I'd like to get some black socks for mine while keeping the frame an oak color, but you can always take the frame apart and refinish that anyway you want.
If you listen to alternative/rock/etc., don't expect these to play well especially at louder volumes. But if you like anything instrumental/vocal, you'll surely be pleased if you've got the proper amp for it.
Keep in mind, Maggies should be about 2-3 feet away from the back wall and spaced apart 50% the distance you sit away from them. IE if you sit 10 feet away from the speakers, they should be about 5 feet apart side to side. They're dipoles, so remember if you set them up just right and have the room for them....they'll have an incredible soundstage.

Thanks for the input. The ones I'm looking at have white socks.
I give my speakers 3 feet of space from the front wall so I should be good there.
I listen to a lot of black and symphonic metal but also love jazz vocals, and that's what got me interested in the Maggies.
But I guess what really makes me want to try them is hearing the characters of bipole vs dipole. My current speakers are bipoles.
Do you HAVE to space them 50% the distance of your listening position? -

That's what the suggestions/online manuals I've found all said. If you space them out a bit wider than the recommended "1/2 distance you sit from them" the stage seems to be as if being spread apart with a "hole in the center." Also they don't blend in very well together, they really do play out like 2 individual speakers. You can look up a manual online and see how Magnepan describes this.

I sold the M series back in the day and they certainly were a unique speaker in their day and still are very nice.................but to imitate planers.....I don't think so!"Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. Measurements can provide a measure of insight, but are no substitute for human judgment. Why are we looking to reduce a subjective experience to objective criteria anyway? I did some measurements and it looks like I could squeeze it in. I'm not used to having speakers that close together though.
Now you guys are making me very excited. I'll let you know what I end up doing.
