New Polk owner

I just Purchased a pair of Polk SRS 2.3TL with a Nakamichi pa-5II amp off of Craigs List for $400.00. The speaks are a bit rough but not bad. 3 of the binding posts have been broken off and need to be replaced. I removed one and it has a 8-32 thread on it. I would like to find a replacement with the same thread so I don't have to break the seal on the mount plate. Will Rat Shack posts work? I also didn't know about the common ground but I did check the amp and it reads 0 ohms between the left and right speaker grounds. There was no interconnect cable with them and did not know about it until I read the instruction plate on the back. Auto connectors won't fit the slot or hole on the plate. Is there a special size that I need? And one more item is that the previous owner managed to put the grills on upside down and pushed in the bottom tweeters on both speakers but they still appear to work. Can the voice coil assembly be replaced or does the entire unit have to be replaced? Thanks for any info!

you in a big a trouble now, just kidding and welcome, don't worry about breaking the seal you will be doing it many times. I do not know if rat shack will work, some pics will help to understand what you are saying. your amp should be a common ground if it reads 0 ohms, and you can make a interconnect for now with speaker wire, and people make and sell them on here all the time. the tweets are probably toast, I got some 2.3tl's and three tweets were gone so I replaced them with upgraded ones from Polk. also make sure which ones these are reg 2.3's or 2.3tl's, what color are the tweeters?

Hi zardoss; Thanks for the reply. The tweets are silver purple color with a black plastic frame. When I mentioned the seal, it is on the back side of the mounting plate where the wires connect. Thanks

sound like 2.3tl to me 2.3's have clear silver looking tweets. you will have to remove the passive to get to the nuts on the other side of the binding posts to replace them. the tweets are sl-3000's and real hard to find used and not available new but do come up sometime on here or e-bay. Polk does make upgraded tweets for these that sound better. you need the interconnect for these to work properly. also you got a hell of a deal. these might take a little work and need to be set up properly so don't get discouraged, in the end its well worth it.

Thanks zardoss; Here is the email I got back from the seller. They didn't know what they had.
They are Polkaudio sn# SRS 2.3TLR5306 Right and left Channels. The ad was worded wrong, they are $150 a piece $300 a set, which if you know anything about sound they have to go as a set. I also didn't include the amp that would run them for $100 so all together $400 for everything. Let me know if you are still interested. Tarah -

Welcome, Jim. 400 bucks...with an amp...that's an amazing deal!
Nope, you can't buy a replacement voice coil assembly for the SL3000's (I asked). As it was described to me by Polk a couple weeks ago, the process for laminating the SL3000 tri-laminate domes used materials now considered hazardous under the EU's RoHS Directive, so that was at least part of the reason for developing the new RD0198-1 tweeter, which replaces the SL3000.
There's no market for the magnet assembly either, so I guess an old SL3000 just becomes a big refrigerator magnet ;o)
You can sometimes find used SL3000's for sale, but a large majority of the people here that have upgraded to the new tweeter consider it a sonic improvement. -

As per your Tweeters, you should replace all 6 with RD0198-1's, you can buy them by calling Polk Customer Support. Mention to them that you are a Club Polk Member and you will receive them at a discounted price and you'll get two day shipping for FREE!

I guess shipping costs have become too high for the 2-day shipping bonus. It's still free shipping ($48 per tweeter plus tax) but I was quoted 7-10 days when I ordered several days ago.
