Or will this even work? I recently bought the Oink 700 and now it's time to add the rear center. I going to buy a csi40 and put my 30 in the rear. The question revolves around the placement. I have 9.5 feet behind my couch to the back wall. Between the couch and wall are a hallway and a door way to the kitchen. My idea was to hang the rear center from the ceiling at the same distance that I sit from my front center (why I chose this distance I have know idea, just seem logical to me). My other idea was to build a very tall stand to set it on and put it up against the back wall. I figure both will work, I just don't want to loose sound quality to the hallway/doorway. Is there a recommended distance the thing should be behind the listening position?

Soccerplyr,
The distance can make a huge difference if your receiver does not allow for setting the individual speaker distances from your primary listening position. If you own any SACD's you've probably seen the liitle insert that states that you should have 5 identical speakers for the best possible sound quality, not always realistic though. WWW.Dolby.com has some really great info for proper speaker placement, and you could always try this also...

Keep in mind that placing the speaker too close to your primary listening position may cause the rear sound to be quite localized, and too far away will cause an unnatural delay. Try using a step ladder as a temporary stand and experiment a little before commiting to a specific location. -
Soccerplyr,
I have similar situation, my room is 30 feet long and I sit about half way in between. My rears are about 13 feet behind me and so far it is working ok. I am using a pair of RT25is as rear surrounds. I did noticed that I get a much better rear surround field in DTS ES movies, in matrixed based rear surround listining I have not been able to get a decent level effect coming from the back. I dont know weather it is due to differnce is surround format or it is due to large distance.
