Must be all that repressed British 'angst' always under control and proper that then bubbles up and explodes out! :D

Whatever it is - long live rock - from where ever!!! :p

A lot of the artists you mentioned were greatly influenced by...the blues, originating from the good ole' USA. My hat not only goes off to Roy Harper but more so to the blues musicians! Rock and roll owes a huge debt to them. Interesting and ironic how things happen.

And blues can trace its own origins to other influences and so on and so on.

Recognizing and honoring that which came before is deserving - but that which comes after should also be recognized and honored for building, adapting, and expanding the overall repertoire of the musical 'language'.

Don't forget The Who, and of course.... the Priest--Judas Priest! :p

Hendrix and Zappa were Americans. I find everything else pretty inconsequential.

They deserve honarable mention but their contribution shadows the British equasion. In any given moment u will likley hear an English rock song on the radio compared to anyone else. It's the way it is.They're the best.

Metallica, Aerosmith, The Grateful Dead, Eagles, The Beach Boys, R.E.M., The Doors, Creedence Clearwater, Revival, The Byrds, Steely Dan, Talking Heads, Van-Halen, Boston, America, Kansas, The Ramones, Lynyrd Skynyrd, ZZ Top, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Doobie Brothers, The Band, Chicago, Fleetwood Mac, Jefferson Airplane Crosby Stills and Nash, Tom Petty & the Heartbreaker, The Replacements, Buffalo Springfield, Velvet Underground, Pixies, GNR, Zappa and the Mothers of Invention...and these are only the ones off the top of my head...

This does not even get into the early RnR like Buddy Holly and The Crickets, Bill Haley and the Comets. Then there is the whole Blues and Motown genre that spawned many of the groups (including the British)...

    The English haven't dominated rock...

Really guys? A pissing contest over which country has produced the best music?

I would say the Brits have produced a surprising amount of mega-bands considering their size, but no way coudl you call it "dominating" anything. But who cares where it comes from? Does it sound good? Awesome, it's in.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

I say, who the frack cares where the music comes from. Just enjoy it all!

Ever look at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee list? Seems to me that it is not at all dominated by British bands.

It's art and it's the only thing the world has to bring us all together as one.

One the only way is one
I feel angry I feel helpless, want to change the world
I feel violent I feel alone, don't try and change my mind
Society blind by color why hold down one to raise another
Discrimination now on both sides seeds of hate blossom further
The world is heading for mutiny, when all we want is unity
We may rise and fall, but in the end we meet our fate together

    Hmmm, the U.S. hasn't produced any mega-stars? You're right.

Although, I do recall a couple of KINGS in our past, and some guy named Garth, who, IIRC, has outsold the Stones, even though, they had a 20 YEAR headstart..............but whatever dude:rolleyes:

    Source?

When I look, I see a plenty of American bands. Again, no clear British rule.
