Morning guys/gals, as some of you may (or may not) know I am in the USAF and am currently stationed at Fairchild AFB in WA. Well, I have been here almost 11 years and I thought I was going to die here, lol. A few days ago I got some news that I had received orders and was going to PCS (move) to Ramstein AB in Germany. I did some inquiring, and after a few days of phone calls to various agencies here and overseas, come to find out, it is true!! I am not leaving for atleast 6 months or so, but I wanted to share the news with my "family" here at Club Polk. My wife and I are very happy about the move, but we are having a hard time selling the idea to our 3 teenage kids. They are all in High School and have many close friends here, but they are coming around. Hopefully I won't have a problem in Germany getting online to keep in touch with you guys, but I won't know until I get there. I have been there a few time before, passing through on my way to other places, but never for more than a few days. My orders will keep me there for 4 years, and when I get back I will have my pick of bases I want to go to, if I don't decide to just stay there, lol. Again, just wanted to share the news, and Al, you and me need to hook up before I leave here. It would be a shame to have lived so close to a fellow Polkie for so long and never meet.

Congrats on the news Jeff. I can only imagine trying to sell the idea to the teenagers. I have a 10 year old and selling an idea like that to him would be very difficult. Anyway, good luck with that and hope the rest of the organization goes nice and smooth. Germany is on my list of a few countries left to visit. Maybe someday.

Congrats on the move! And 4 years isn't a long time to be able to get your pick of where to go next! 6 months should give your kids plenty of time to ready themselves and all of you as a family.

Thanks for the well wishes guys/gals, and I'm proud to serve my country, it's about all I have accomplished in my life, lol. Sherardp, I have been to Kadena a couple of times passing through, but IIRC the only option for me there would be to do a remote for a year, and no option to bring my family along. The kids have taken it "well" so far, with the exception of our 14 yr old daughter, she is not happy about it at all. She is coming around though and by April, should be on board, lol. Thanks again, and if anybody ever wants to come over for Oktoberfest (next year of course, lol) you have a free place to stay!!

    Jeff,

Congrats. I've been to Germany many times. I love the country - great food, wonderful culture, great sites, etc. I know you are there for reasons other than sight seeing, but hopefully you'll get to experience a lot of what it has to offer! Best of luck,

Congrats! PCS moves can always be stressful on a family. I did 20 in the Navy and we were asked to move every 3 years. It was not my ideal way of raising a family, especially with 4 teenagers! I sucked it up and stayed put by negotiating jobs to keep my family in one place. It worked for the last 15 years. The first 5 the kids were little and there was limited impact on kiddie playgroups.

My daughter is in the AF stationed at Kadena. She is actually in town on leave then a school in Texas. She also is looking to go to Germany in one year.

Have fun, good luck and thanks for your service!

Congrats Jeff, understand the kids, any chance they have any friends that may have ended up there that they have forgotten about. I was in Torrejon (Madrid) in the late 70's great place back then. I think it's closed as far as USAF, half the base was Spanish, lots of travel opportunities to see Germany as well as more of Europe, take advantage of what opportunities you can.
