Cambridge Soundworks
Does anyone have an opinion on these speakers in general? My girlfriend's dad has a left, right and center from CSW. He insists they are incredible. I have yet to be too moved by them. I would like to have some arguments to convince her brother not to get the same thing. To me they look like a cheap Bose knockoff. I am not sure the center has any tweeters. Anyways, correct me if I am wrong. Pour some fuel on the fire if I am leaning in the right direction.
This is your chance to convert someone over to Polk!

From what I hear the old CS speakers use to be awesome, from the ones I have heard, they sound like $h1t in a box. IMO- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

Cambridge makes some cube modules, similar to Bose (in size), and they also make some decent bookshelves and floor standers.
What is your bud looking at? I've found the CS 'cube' systems to sound slightly better than Bose in the upper mid and high, and a more natural bass using 8" or larger subs in non-bandpass configurations (as Bose uses). And just as the compitetion does, these cube systems feature an single, expanded range driver.
And the final kicker for me, they cost about half (or less) then a comprable Bose system.
If your friend is into small, don't forget to check out Jm Lab (the new Sib & Cub models), Tannoy also has a good 'micro' set, along with DefTech, and I've heard many good things about the Energy Take '5' system. Anthony Gallo 'spheres' have been going fairly reasonably on ebay lately. Hey, don't forget Polk's RM series offerings.
Point is, there are a LOT of options for this type of rig.

When I was putting my second system in I looked at CSW. I was building a basement playroom. One day I was in the Mall and my wife (trying to get rid of me) said "why do you check out stuff at the HiFi store".
I spent a hour or so there listened to the entire CSW speaker line and buying a TV!!! I ended up getting Polk speakers however. -
I'm sorry, but Russ alredy posted my reply word for word.
I'd also add:
If there's no tweeter, then there is no crossover. This is a major plus considering the price. I'm working on a single driver center just to get rid of the crossover in this very sensitive range. I'm pretty sure that Heny Kloss came up with the first sat/sub design while at Cambridge Soundworks. They are also pretty cheap and come with an in-home demo. If you don't like them, send 'em back. If you do like 'em send 'em back anyways and get them from E-bay for a song.
Dangit! Now I gotta go bid on something or a couple of.Make it Funky!
