My Anthem AMP 1 is now arriving Friday. I have been reading and listening to people regarding various tubes.

ANyone here using Svetlana SED Winged "C" EL34 tubes ?

How do you like them or not like them ?

ANy favorite tube vendors you use ? I understand if no one would want to publically post that info but you could PM me:D

By that I mean some of the best people are best kept secrets. I am amazed and surprised how much there is to learn about tubes.

We are lucky to have some guys here that know and understand tubes and will share what they know.

It's a shame Russman isn't around here much anymore. He had one.
That was my first listen to a modern tube amp.

I like both the SED EL34's and 6550's. EH fat bottle 6CA7's and Gold Lion KT77's are also very good EL34 varients. enjoy....WCW III Oh yeah www.deepsurplus.com has nice tubes for cheap with a 90 day money back return policy

The Winged C tubes from Jim McShane is the way to go. Excellent matching at real operating platevoltage. Great guy who will help answer your questions. I have used many different EL34s and KT77s but keep coming back to my Winged C tubes.

    Hello thsmith,

I own an EAR 534 which has eight EL 34's in there. My experience rolling them is that Svetlanas "C"'s are certainly good tubes......the only ones which actually do better IMO are the NOS variants from Mullard (prices are crazy) and as well the ones from the former East German Company RFT which manufactured EL 34's for Siemens and also partly for Telefunken.

If you can have a hands on these, it might be worth to try as well. Don't pay more than $ 35 for a real NOS bottle.

    Have fun, Walter
