After reading Dodge's post the hampster started turning the wheel in my head... I have a old.. A/C until on the blazer that no longer works... If Took that off and replaced it with a 16 volt alternator and put 2 marine 8 volts in the rear to power the amps would that work... cause in theory as long as I don't wire the 16 in the electical system of the truck I think I will be ok...

I was also VERY shocked at how hard my GNX wanged once I hooked them up to the Memphis Polk has great stuff ;) .

in theory - it would work...

however you have to take other things into consideration.

1- i'm not sure how much horsepower (or strain on engine) it is for the engine to turn the alternator -- if its the same as an AC unit - then expect teh same **** u get when running the AC -- lower gas mileage etc etc etc... if its more than running the ac unit then you may be doing harm to the car.

    2- 16.5 - 17 volt alternators doing 200 A cost a small fortune -- you're looking in the 700 dollar range with a mounting bracket and crap

3- marine batteries are low on the cranking amp scale -- you'll probably need to do "dual pairs" so you'll have 4 batteries (size of riding lawnmower batts) ... 2 seriesed pairs.. basically like havin two die hard's on your normal alt. but the two pairs of maines will probably have the same storage capacity as one 900 cca die hard.

I'd say you're lookin at a bill like this...
    alt - 700
    external regulator - 100
    0 gauge - 60
    4 marine batteries - 200 to 250
    terminal ends - 7 two packs = 30 bucks

add in miscellaneous "oh **** i broke that" costs --- and you're nearly at 1200 bucks.

if its worth 1200 bucks and decreased gas mileage to ya -- by all means do it. I thought of doing something similar in my truck ,m but the 1500 dollar estimate i came to made me vomit.
