So I happened upon the news of a possible re-boot of the TV series "Hawaii Five-O" by CBS....
But "Hawaii Five-O" didn't starred Jack Lord and Danny Williams!! Danny Williams was the name of the character played by James MacArthur. You know...."Book him, Danno", not "Book him, Jimbo"
LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- “Hawaii Five-O” is reportedly heading back to TV – thanks to the writers behind “Star Trek” and “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.”
Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, the screenwriters of the two summer hits, will be rebooting the classic cop drama for CBS along with “CSI: NY” producer Peter Lenkov, Variety reported.
The original show, which ran from 1968-1980, was filmed on location in Hawaii, where the new version is expected to return.
“Hawaii Five-O” starred Jack Lord and Danny Williams as a pair of hardened cops serving in the Hawaiian State Police. There’s no word yet on who would take on their roles in the reboot.

James MacArthur is (or was?) actress Helen Hayes' son (as I recall).

This thought just popped into my head....
Why not Conan O'Brien as McGarrett?
He got the height and the hair, and best of all, he's unemployed. OK, maybe the Hawaiian sun wouldn't be good for his pale skin, but I think we can recast Conan as an action hero. I mean, he was "Conando" after all -
The new Hawaii Five-O is a go for this fall on CBS (the show has just been announced on CBS' new fall TV schedule)
-
Here's the new "Hawaii Five-O" opening sequence (don't blame me for CBS' decision to put an ad before it)

Bookem Keiko!
No I think Mike should play Jack Lord...Danny is a natural for Danno (namesake that is). I think we have our cast right here...whatya say...I can put in a guest appearance as Kojak--but I'm not that bald--yet?

Lame! Give me the original kick a$$ music. I saw the name Scott Caan, is he any relation to James Caan?

Well at least they are keeping the original music anything else would have been severely lame.
I hope they continue the story line of Wo Fat. He was one of the great McGarrett's arch-nemesis and I always found Wo Fat and his continuing stories to be some of the best the show had to offer. -

Scott Caan is indeed son of James Caan. I agree about the music as well.....it's also too short.
Anyone prefer the opening sequence of the unsold 1998 Hawaii Five-O pilot? -
Here's a comparison of the new vs old opening sequence minus commercials. I think they did a good job with the new one.

Wow, I just noticed that they are not having a BIG Hawaiian guy as part of the cast.
Remember Kono Kalakaua played by Zulu (original cast)? He was a great character and I liked the way he always called McGarrett, "Boss." I don't know it won't seem right without that character even though he was only in the original from 1968–1972. -
Sounds like CBS re-worked the new theme song, giving it much flavor of the original. Video of recording the new theme song to the reboot of "Hawaii Five-O"

I vaguely remember having the 45rpm (by "The Ventures") of the H5o theme song as a kid. But we lived in Hawaii so it might not have been that popular everywhere.
edit: I guess it WAS popular everywhere. Reached #4 on Billboard pop singles according to this:

When I was very young, I use to ask my dad if I could stay up before bedtime on the night Hawaii Five O was on just to hear the opening song. I used to love it . . .still do! -
That's a heck of a lot better. LOL they must have gotten slammed for the wimpy first version that they did!Marantz AV-7705 PrePro, Classé 5 channel 200wpc Amp, Oppo 103 BluRay, Rotel RCD-1072 CDP, Sony XBR-49X800E TV, Polk S60 Main Speakers, Polk ES30 Center Channel, Polk S15 Surround Speakers SVS SB12-NSD x2

They better be showing up in Aloha shirts. I haven't seen a single Honolulu PD who wears suits and ties in the island while on duty.I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.
