vaselin on driver surround

I am not sure this is the right section for such a weird question but here goes :

While searching for alternatives to fixing my own problem with torn surround of my RT3 driver I came across a cheap Polk 10 monitors. The owner said he acted on a dubious suggestion and put vaseline on two of the mid driver surrounds to revive the rubber. As a result the rubber expanded and loosened.

Are these drivers total loss now? Is it possible to fix this in anyway but replacing the surrounds/drivers?

I don't know what drivers exactly those monitors use. I wanted to hear opinions here before I consider paying for the speakers. He asks about 80$ for them.

Thanks ,Lasareath. I want to avoid patches by using liquid tape. When I get it in a few days I will see if it is strong/elastic enough. If not I will continue in the path of rubber cement/bicycle kit.

Aren't there rubber surrounds kits for this size that would be suitable ?

Do you have a pic of them? It is kinda a loss unless you are in a remote area, and the tweeters are the peerless models. Are the surrounds torn? They are very supple by design.

Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks

There are plenty on Monitor 10 speakers floating around, keep looking for a pair that actually work.

I was only thinking the price is low enough to make the deal worth while . I wasn't looking for a such large speakers to begin with :)

    Thanks.

Lasareath, I think skrol was refering to the monitor drivers...

I can make a good use with an SRT then ;) though I don't think I will bother. I took a closer inspection of the second driver today and found it was deteriorating also. Maybe the high tempratures/humidity level here contribute to their quick wear out. I am only guessing.
