Are these pre-outs?

Hello,

This receiver I have has "Audio Out"s for front L/R, Center, Subwoofer and Surround L/R. It is a panasonic SA-HE70. Are these pre-outs? or are they for something else?

According to this manual it looks like it has multi ch inputs for a DVD,SACD player but no pre outs

If this is your model, then no, those are not pre-outs. They are probably audio inputs for multi-channel audio from appropriately equiped source players (probably DVD-A, but they may work for SACD also).

what would all those audio outs be used for? I know you said capable SACD/DVD-A players, but why would they require output from receiver to them?

I am pretty sure those are all inputs - not outputs.

They are inputs for the multi channel output of a DVD-A/V or SACD player.

Fair enough, that makes alot more sense. Since we're on the topic, Does an SACD player require those inputs? or can they also do HMDI/optical/coax?

Optical (Toslink) and coax don't have the bandwidth to transmit the native DSD bitstream of SACD. HDMI can accommodate the DSD bistream, but only from version 1.2 on up.
