I got some 4 gauge for the Memphis amp which sould hold it for now... here my question the amp is 1000X2 or 2000 watts total... so that's 500 RMS per channel... so I turned the gain down to 1/2 so that sould set my my RMS at about 250 Watts per channel that sould be safe for my 2 GNX 12's righto?

    you're all backasswards dude...

if that spec sheet website u posted in the other thread is correct you're amp is as follows...

    1200 x 1 at 4 ohms
    2000 x 1 at 2 ohms

1 channel --- mono amp --- not two channel.

if you put one two ohm sub on it.... you'd get 2k watts into it. regardless of the number of speaker hookups on the amp -- even if it says "left and right" its just ONE output -- inside the amp those terminals are connected...

anywho -- lets look at the speakers first...

assuming you have 4 ohm GNX's then that is a 2 ohm load on the amp... so it's putting out 2000 watts.

now the gain... half gain is like 85% power dude. assuming you have a 4 volt preout and your amp is tolerant of an 8 volt input then just a little past half -- like 60% gain is "full throttle". if you had the gain at 1/4 then you'd be lookin at like half of full power -- or 1000 watts. thats still 500 per sub. thats wayyy too much.

here's a better / safer idea that'll be better for your subs and your amp...

    again, assuming you have single 4 ohm coil gnx's -- wire them in series ( amp + to the first speakers + then 1st speakers ( - ) to the 2nd speaker's + and the 2nd speakers (-) to the amp's (-).

it looks like you're getting 60% increase in power as you cut your ohm load in half (going from 1200 to 2000 as u go from 4 to 2) ... so 1200 is 160 % of 750 watts.

So at 8 ohms, I would venture to say you're probably doing 750 watts rms.

assuming 60 - 65% on the gain dial is 750 rms *you're top rms at that ohm load*, then if u put the gain at like 1/3 then you'll be doing like 375 rms which is the IDEAL power for the GNX subwoofers and that'll keep em happy without killing them until u can swap them to your girl's car.
