Hello

I recently upgraded my gaming room flat panel from on old 17 inch Samsung, one of the first HDTV's to come out, to a Toshiba:

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-2dLOlAWxxQd/p_05226A502R/Toshiba-26AV502R.html

It is 1080i capable on the components and 1080p on HDMI. The specs on HDMI on Crutchfields site aren't correct.....

I have one of the original 360's, was returned once with the RROD, hooked up via Component. Was thinking about getting one of the newer HDMI 360's and was wondering if you guys were seeing much difference between 1080i and 1080p on your games? I don't see much between 720P and 1080i maybe a little crisper...

And do the newer ones have a seperate optical out on them as my receiver doesn't have HDMI in, only optical in....

Is it much of a hassle to get things all moved over to a new one? Transferring hard drive, account, etc....

I have a 360 and ps3. The 360 is an old one and only 1080i, but the ps3 is 1080p. If I play the same game on both consoles I can't tell much a difference, except with the sound. The ps3's sound blows the 360's away. I really think 1080p is a little overrated unless it's on a huge screen. I also thought about buying a newer 360 with the HDMI, but I really don't think that you'll be able to tell any difference. That's just me though, I'm sure that if you looked as hard as you can the difference would be there, but really there are not many games that are actually 1080p anyway.

Okay, thanks, I have it set on 720P now, which is the native resolution of the tv anyway. And yes from what I gather 1080P shines more on bigger screens...

I don't know about the ps3 blowing away the 360 on sound, I've found it the other way around....I have an older Sony 5.1 receiver powering a set of Klipsch and a Polk sub, very immersive, clear, great 5.1, the ps3 I've found to be a little weak...

How do you have your ps3 setup? Is it HDMI or optical? Do you have the DTS enabled, and are you bitstreaming, or using the PCM? I have never ran mine optical, so if you are maybe that's why mine sounds different. It's really a night and day difference with mine. Almost every game I play on the ps3 has 7.1 and the LFE always seems to be stronger. Take the new need for speed for example. Everything about it sounds better, it's deeper, louder, and the bass is much better. If you have everything setup to be at it's best, the ps3 really does sound better. Don't get me wrong the 360 doesn't sound bad, it's just the ps3 has DTS built into it for the game developers to take advantage of easier and most of them do. That's why so many ps3 games have the 7.1 DTS, while there hasn't been a 360 game I have come across yet that does. DTS says that the 360 can use the 7.1 but I don't think many developers use it for some reason or other.

I've also noticed that if you bitstream on the ps3 you don't get the 7.1. It turns it down to the 5.1, but if you go PCM it kicks in the back speakers. I know you have 5.1 but maybe it uses a more compressed version for bitstream.

Engadget did a fairly thorough comparison of 1080i vs. 1080p on HDMI for the 360 when it became available. Moreorless their conclusion was they were too similar to tell a difference. Now, whether your display and switcher does one better than another is a seperate matter. It don't think its worth changing to the new box.
