Is $175 a good price for one?
Where does this model fit, performance wise, in Adcom's lineup?
I'm sure I know the answer on this, but since its an older amp (and lower rated wattage than the usualy Adcoms I've seen here)....would it be better than the amp in the Onk 805?
Thanks

My Onkyo TX-SR702 sounded better than an Adcom GFA-535.polkaudio RT35 Bookshelves

Probably better to take this to the Electronics forum;
I got my 5500 for $125 and my 7500 for $250; $175 seems a bit high for me... -

No, it's cool. I haven't personally liked any Adcom amp i've ever had, either.
They tell me it's because i was using a low end Adcom preamp with the adcom amps, and that may be true. But i've now moved on.I don't read the newsssspaperssss because dey aaaallllllllll...... have ugly print.

Not saying Adcom amps are awesome or anything.
But I am assuming you were plugging the Adcom up through your pre outs on the Onkyo...
Keep in mind, an amp AMPLIFIES the signal it is given. I can tell you that your Onkyo is not exactly the end all be all of preamps.
I have heard Adcom on many occasions and while they are not perfect, I can say they blow away just about any receiver that is under 1,000.- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -

Wholly, Moses!! Adcom makes very good amps and am highly puzzled by the above statements. The 535 is a good budget amp and the 545 is an excellent amp. I am very happy with my 7400,it pushes the Lsi's very nicely.
Now,if you were using a GTP-450 pre then yes, I can see why you weren't impressed. I couldn't sell mine quick enough. -
^^another +1^^
My experiences with Adcom so far have been great. I've got a GFA-545 that I absolutely love. It totally blows my Onkyo 606 away as far as musicality and dynamics go.
My next amp will be a GFA-5802. Once I get a better AVR with pre-outs, I'll probably look into one of the Adcom 7x00 series amps. The nirvana inducer-

Yeah, i've been through this time and time again, and i'm willing to accept that it was probably the Pre that i was using. However, that pre sounded fine with an Emotiva XPA-2, Kenwood Basic M-1, and the Oinker in my system now.
All of the Adcom amps i've had just sounded grainy to me.
Personal opinion, i'm not going to sit here and say that they're bad, everyone has different gear, ears, and synergy is different in every system.
I won't personally got the extreme and say that i liked just a receiver better, but i can understand how someone might.I don't read the newsssspaperssss because dey aaaallllllllll...... have ugly print.
