Need a cheap rig for the garage, patio, mancave? I stumbled on a sale at J&R's for the Sherwood RX-4105 stereo receiver.
Rated at 100watts, it's a very simple, remote controlled 2-channel receiver. Specs look fairly respectable, and it's a nice looking unit. $89 shipped! Hell I couldn't find a used receiver that cheap. It's running in my warehouse rig with Advent Calypso indoor/outdoor speaks. Nice sounding little rig. This weekend I'll grab a $47 Sony DVD player for CD duty at Wally World.
Just though I'd pass it on....

Not bad. I got a 12" JBL sub from JR for less than $200 shipped. They have great deals.Do you hear that buzzing noise?

Perfect! It ain't like your sitting there doing any critical listening. Warehouse duty, huh? I'm guessing decent output for the money?

Yep. It's strictly used for background music, but sounds pretty good. I have the Advents wall mounted, about 10 feet up, and abour 30ft apart. The warehouse is about 8200sqft.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2

JR is awesome. I stop there and get a box of cigars every year on my way to/from vacation.~Matt

I bought my son an earlier version of this Sherwood 100 wpc receiver about 5 years ago along with some teenager speakers - the old Technics 15"/2.5"/1" 3-ways. He has generated very loud volume for parties in our basement and at his college. That receiver does the job pretty well for a mere 100 bucks.Living Room system: 52"HDTV, 4 Mon.70s, Epik Valor, Outlaw RR2150

Given the low price, I'm pretty impressed with it. When my patio rig receiver finally deep 6's, I'll just get another one of these. But so far the yamaha keeps on ticking, and it's left outside all year.
One nitpick to mention, the cheesey spring-loaded speaker connections would barely fit 16awg multi-strand wire. There's no way you'd get 14awg or bigger in there without reducing to a crimp-on pin type connection. I had to do some seriously tight twisting to get them in there. Of course with a unit like this, it's not like you're gonna be running Audioquest Gibraltar cables.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2 -

Look for the Sherwood RX-4109....binding posts and phono pre-amp. You can get one for under $100.00 brand-new. Got mine from Radio Shack for $60.00 on Black Friday.
