is this some kind of tweek?
Yes. It's called loose wires.
Or maybe somene unplugged them becasue the tweeter was damaged and making funny noises? If it sounds fine now, then just forget about it.

It's a fair question, many polkies feel that the dimensional tweeter in the early SDA's makes the soundstage sound unnatural or "wild". So they disconnect it. The disconnected tweets should be the left in the left channel speaker and the right in the right channel speaker.
You'll learn alot about your SDA's if you read DarqueKnight's sticky threads at the top of the vintage speakers threads.
JimInfinity QLS1, Polk SDA-1A, OLAdvent Econowave, Yamaha RXV-1300, CDC-685, P2200, AB International 9220A, Rane ME15B, Cambridge Audio 640P, Grant Fidelity B-283, Luxman PD277-AT7V, Pioneer PL707-Denon DL-207, DL-160....And projects on the bench! -
SDA 1B's don't have a dimensional tweter; they have two one on top of the other like the 1C's._________________________________________________
