I was not happy with my motherboards RealTek onboard sound card.

Are you using the via vt1708s sound card on the ASUS motherboard?
If so SP/PDIF out to a DAC?
Are you happy with the SQ?

Its not the best vs using my old yammie sound card but its not that bad.

SP/PDIF via Signal Optical direct to Onkyo

I will be upgrading it, just not priority.

I'd look on Ebay for a pro sound card. I picked up an EMU card for $20+shipping last year. It has excellent output on digital and analog. Right now, I have the analog outputs driving an amp and the digital output going to a DAC>headamp combo. I don't know what kind of drivers you are using, but if you can get to something with good ASIO drivers, your sound will improve. This is especially true if you are using lossless files.

If they have a Vista 64bit driver, it should work with Win 7.

Yeah i know, never found one. Thinking its legacy at this point. Just havent tried to install it back again. They didnt have one with WIN7 RC, i just got Ultimate from MSDN and havent tried to install it back in and see if it finds anything, even a generic. I'll have to try that....

I'm running an Adcom 555 with my laptop and left-over JBL bookshelf speakers. I get an annoying groundloop hiss, but otherwise I'm happy.
Do you hear that buzzing noise?

I'm just using the ASUS stock sound processor to a RCA splitter for my Quad's.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Wow the sensitivity of those Quads must be very high if they can be driven directly from a sound card.:)

They're powered so sensitivity doesn't really matter...in this case at least.

This is the sound card I use best sound card I have ever heard. Puts any creative labs card to shame and any other card I have heard just a great sounding card.
