Oh my God! L. Ron Hubbard and the Screaming Tomatoes! Still makes me laugh and it sounds like a cheesy punk-polka band! If there is such a thing. If there is, I'll betcha zombie_boy_2000 has been to one of their concerts!

By the way, one of the lab experiments I had in electronic circuits classes in college was making a battery and a capacitor. Guess what we used? Tomatoes. They are acidic but full of water as well. You put a metal lead of any kind in to one and that is your plate in the electrolytic solution. You just made a battery. The "screaming" that Hubbard measured with his "meter" was not a spike in energy due to pain experienced by the tomatoes but rather a spike in voltage due to the knife completing the battery. Slicing a tomato doesn't make it scream, it just charges it like a battery.

The guy was a nutcase. He also invented the crackpot "religion" of Scientology.

His books were his religion! Those science fiction books you've read? Yeah, that's Scientology.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

That 'laryngaphone' was really just a sound powered phone, with a bad marketing campaign. A great invention. It's still used on U.S. warships today.

    Under a rock, apparently. :p

I tend to tune out anything remotely related to religion when it comes up in conversation, so i probably heard it, then it went straight out the other side.

30 years ago I had a boss like that. One in his mouth, one burning in the tray, and a full cup of coffee. He could of used that. He was a crusty
retired Marine. He survived countless beach invasions of WWII,
but I bet lung cancer did him in.

But THIS! Well this is just all kinds of awesome! Forget the dog, imagine what it could do for child rearing skills! It's also the biggest set of tongs I've ever seen! Somebody lend me your kid so I can torment them with this! Then again, imagine the size of the can you could get off the top shelf without ever having to leave your Rascal?!

    L. Ron was a crackpot, and Dianetics was a failure, but his fiction novels were pretty good, if I remember correctly. I was reading Asimov around the same time, which is fuzzy.
