:p

What else would make someone become suddenly hungry for a few days? Since Saturday, i've been constantly hungry, and i've put away enough food that i'm even to the point of being disgusted with myself.

Case in point, yesterday i ate:

4 bagels w/ cream cheese
A personal pizza
A gigantic salad
Half of a 9x9" cookie bar
Two bowls of cereal
Two pieces of garlic cheese bread
A crapload of lasagna (pics of this beauty will be posted when i get home in the recipe thread)
A cinnamon roll

And drank:
2 glasses of apple juice
3-4 cans of soda
a 20z cup of coffee
two bottles of water

I've been eating like this since Saturday. I find myself sitting here today, and already when i got to work just before 6am, i was already looking forward to going home and tearing the hell out of the lasagna leftovers.

And no... it's not the munchies.

Does anyone else ever experience this? I normally consume 4,000+ calories a day, but this is insane. My girlfriend is even noticing, since Sunday night, we made a HUGE batch of nachos (pictures of this also coming tonite, with recipe) and i destroyed at least half of them before she even finished her first plate.
I don't read the newsssspaperssss because dey aaaallllllllll...... have ugly print.

Might try protein, everything you listed are carbs which is not filling. But for sure if you body is doing something different for 3-4 days you should see a doctor.

Ehh... i ate at least a half pound of beef with the nachos, and probably about a quarter pound of sausage in the lasagna yesterday, plus all the cheese on both.

If it continues through the week, i'll go see a doctor. This happens to me at least a few times a year, always has. It was even worse when i was still growing. :p

Maybe i'm gearing up for one last late growth spurt? At age 23? Would be nice to add an inch or two onto my 5'9" height. But i'd rather just fill out. :)

I need no pushing to eat more protein though, don't have to tell me twice. Steak tonite! :D

Did you do any activity during this time? Even though I may not look it, I'm sort of an exercise buff. I don't eat right all the time, but do my best. I find that when I exercise -even a half hour walk - it cuts down on my appetite. I agree that you need more protein and less carbs. Eating a pound and a half of ground beef, and sausage doesnt' cut it. Try chicken on the salad, chicken on anything really, tuna/salmon, etc. Ground beef is meat, but not the healthiest. I think salty and sugary foods (Soda, cream cheese, pizza, etc.) just makes you hungrier. Case in point - tostitos - I have one or two, and then half the bag is gone, and not cause i was really hungry, it was that the salt and sugar in other foods, makes you crave more of it. Suggestion - take out the soda and drink water instead. When I'm hungry, I'll drink a bottle of water and have a banana or an apple or something, and that will make the hunger go away - and I'm ALWAYS hungry. Need more than that? Put some peanut butter on the apple, or have some nuts or a cheese stick with it. I think it's what you are putting in your body that's causing it.

And I'm jealous. I wish I could eat that much and stay 130 pounds :)

I'm fairly active. Unfortunately, i rock a desk job during the week. But i work on cars a lot, and generally do wear myself out physically most days.

I haven't worked out in a loooooong time and plan to start once my back is completely healed.

I'll change menu tonite to chicken. I do eat a ton of chicken in general, just haven't this week for some reason. I usually have a good 5-10lbs of poultry in the freezer at any given time.

And i'll trade you. I hate weighing this little. I was happy at my 150+/- before i messed up my back.

That sounds awesome! I just found a little hole in the wall Mexican place a few weeks back that now makes me not like chipotle at all...and I used to love that place. I think you're just a typical guy, so shouldn't have to worry too much about a "hearty" appetite.

Nope, i'm still on them. But i've been on them for a little over two weeks now i think. Don't know why they would have caused a delayed appetite change though.

Well, it HAS been colder these last few days, so that's pretty possible i guess. Now if i could just learn to hibernate, that would be pretty ideal. :D

I think we can say, "Bingo !" on that one.

Your blood sugar, for whatever reason, appears like it is dropping low.
Get a cheapo (but good) glucometer from Walgreens; they always have some brand on sale for free-or-next to free with test strips.

It could be diabetes, but when I was realizing that I was diabetic I was never that hungry really. I was thirsty all the time, had to urinate very frequently...waking up a couple times a night, eye sight fluctuated from good to bad on a daily basis, constantly tired. I'm only in Dayton, so if you make a drive this way I'll personally check your blood sugar for you! I was lucky that my dad and sister are diabetic so I had my dad check my blood sugar for me when I went home to visit and it was 400 something...which is very bad for those of you who don't know that your blood sugar should be somewhere around 80-100 normally. Any glucometer that I've gotten has always come with about 10 test strips usually, so this would be a minimal investment for you probably.

Hunger, thirst, either way, it's your body telling you it needs something to regulate itself.

There are two types of diabetes, one that is insulin dependent and one that is sugar dependent.

But it's just my suggestion. I'm not a doctor but my experience with it is that diabetes knows no age and can affect anyone at any time, family history or not.

If he's that concerned, Club Polk is not the place for medical advice. It's not the place for relationship/mental health advice or legal advice either. If concerns are this great, one should consult a professional.

There are two types of diabetes, but they are both insulin dependent. If you are hypoglycemic, you will need more sugar, but if someone who is diabetic either needs more insulin, or has to carefully regulate what carbohydrates are consumed. I agree with you Jstas that his body might be telling him something and that this isn't exactly the place for a professional opinion, but we may be able to help to some point. You are definitely correct in the point that diabetes knows no age and can affect anyone at any time though.
